The Sydney Sixers started WBBL05 in style as they thrashed Sydney Thunder in the opening game. They will now play their second game in two days as they face Brisbane Heat, the defending champions of the WBBL.
Brisbane Heat defeated Sydney Sixers in the final of the last WBBL and would love to start this season in a similar manner. Brisbane Heat knows it is going to have to start very strongly to try and replicate the success of last season.
Sydney Sixers Women vs Brisbane Heat Women WBBL 05 is going to be played at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney on the 19th of October 2019.
Elyse Perry started this season of the WBBL with a brilliant 81 and led the Sixers to a total of 192. She was helped by an aggressive 42 from Alyssa Healy and 28 from Ashleigh Gardner as the Sydney Sixers flexed their batting muscles.
With players like Erin Burns, Marizanne Kapp, and others still waiting down the order, the Sydney Sixers batting is appearing truly fearsome.
We were never too concerned about the Sydney Sixers batting, though, and remain convinced that it is the strongest batting lineup in the WBBL.
Elyse Perry also led the way with the bowling as well as she picked up two wickets for just 13 runs in three overs. Sarah Aley picked up three wickets to be the highest wicket-taker in the match. A total of eight different bowlers bowled for the Sydney Sixers in the opening match.
This shows that there are plenty of options but also that the Sydney Sixers are trying to experiment with its inexperienced bowling attack.
Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Marizanne Kapp, Maddy Darke, Lauren Smith, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Jodie Hicks, Sarah Aley, Stella Campbell.
The defending champions will want to start strong in this tournament. We think that for Brisbane Heat to win, one of its top order batters has to have a great match. Laura Harris showed the capability of producing match-winning brilliance in the previous season. She is going to be a candidate to watch out for sure at the top-order.
Beth Mooney has been in excellent form for Australia and we think her form is going to be very crucial for Brisbane Heat this season. Kirby Short, Delissa Kimmince, Sammy Jo-Johnson, Grace Harris, and Amelia Kerr are some of the other players that can contribute with the bat lower down the order.
While the Brisbane Heat batting is not as strong as the Sydney Sixers, it is by no means weak. It could be a handful against the Sydney Sixers bowling attack which has some inexperienced bowlers.
Jess Jonassen, Haidee Birkett, Amelia Kerr, and the all-rounders are going to be hoping to pick up some quick wickets against the Sydney SIxers. If Brisbane Heat is not able to get past the strong order of the Sixers then this game may well be over inside the first ten overs.
Kirby Short, Beth Mooney, Grace Harris, Jess Jonassen, Maddy Green, Mikayla Hinkley, Laura Harris, Amelia Kerr, Sammy Jo Johnson, Delissa Kimmince, Georgia Prestwidge.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first

The batting conditions at the North Sydney Oval were spectacular for the opening match of the WBBL. There were a lot of runs scored as the ball came nicely on to the bat. The same can be expected in this match.
The weather forecast for Sydney is excellent and there should be no interruptions to the game.
We think the Sydney Sixers are the stronger team in this contest and the well-deserved favorites. Betting against them at this early stage in the contest when we have not seen the current form of the Brisbane Heat players is not advisable.
Bet on the Sydney Sixers to win.
