The Heat may be first in the ladder, just in front of the Sixers, but Brisbane has played one more game than Sydney, so it’ll be interesting to see the places when all matches are finished.

The Sixers have been playing great and are 6-2 for the season, although their last game was cancelled due to rain and it was a loss to the Scorchers before that. So, a win is clearly needed for the team to remain in form before the finals start.

Much of the Sydney wins have been through batters Suzie Bates (230 runs) and Ellyse Perry (215 runs), and it’s likely to be these two who will need to perform above their usual excellence to topple a hard team like Perth. It was only a few days ago when the Scorchers defeated Sydney with nine balls remaining, so this is fresh in the minds of the Sixers players.

For the bowling, the Sixers will rely heavily on Ashleigh Gardner (14 wickets) and Sophie Ecclestone (13 wickets), who are really becoming a dangerous duo when their respective four overs begin. Ecclestone’s 0/40 over the last two games is worrying, but she won’t leave it like that for long.

Perth Scorchers Women

To see the Scorchers at fourth place on the WBBL ladder is a little surprising, but their last five games have included three losses and two wins, so this does explain things.

The current titleholders do have excellent batting from Beth Mooney, who leads the team with 266 runs, as well as solid bowling from Alana King (13 wickets), but it’s crystal clear that more is needed to repeat as champions.

Maddy Green can help with the bat, as she’s picked up 36 and 58 runs in her last two matches, and Lilly Mills is turning into one of the best bowlers in the league, although she failed to take a wicket in her last two games. Perth’s squad is quite unbalanced right now and it’s hard to rely on anyone to give a good performance, apart from Mooney and King.
