SYDW vs SYTW Match Prediction - Nov 18, 2022

This could be the most uneven match so far in the current WBBL season, as the last-placed Thunder battle the first-placed Sixers in their Sydney derby.

Of course, this match has little meaning for the Thunder, other than pride, as they have only seven points and can’t reach the post-season. The Sixers still have a lot to play for, as they are only three points ahead of the Heat and will want to ensure they hang on to the top spot.

SYDW vs SYTW Team Previews

Sydney Sixers Women

There’s no doubt that the Sixers are the team to beat right now, and are certainly the favourite for the championship. They’re 9-2 and simply looking invincible with fantastic batting and bowling throughout the squad. They’ve won three in a row, and recently pulled out a tough victory against the Heat.

The Sixers have been so devastating thanks largely to allrounder Ashleigh Gardner, who has been decent with the bat, but far more effective as a bowler. She’s taken 21 wickets so far (second-best in the league) and is only giving up roughly 30 runs per match.

Naturally, the Sixers have been top of the league because of the batting, as Alyssa Healy (301), Erin Burns (284), Suzie Bates (275), and Ellyse Perry (274) have all set the WBBL on fire with their stunning work at the crease. In fact, the Sixers live up to their name, as they lead the league with the most sixes at 35.

Healy has been a force to be reckoned with, as her 107* is the first and only century made this season by a WBBL player. The Sixers will need her to repeat this form in the finals.

Sydney Thunder Women

Perhaps the less said about the Thunder, the better. True, they’ve had three matches disrupted by rain, but for everything else they’ve gone 1-8. One win for the season!

Their most recent loss was to the Renegades, so you know things are bad when Melbourne gets the win over you. The Thunder were pretty embarrassing and scored only 95 runs, with no player making over 20.

The Thunder have had some solid performances from Phoebe Litchfield (team’s top scorer at 219) and Sammy-Jo Johnson, but otherwise it’s been pretty terrible from Rachael Haynes, Amy Jones, and Tammy Beaumont.

The bowling hasn’t been much better, as even though Lauren Smith is fine at 11 wickets, other bowlers like Hannah Darlington and Sammy-Jo Johnson have failed to reach 10 wickets and have some of the worst Economy Rates in the league.

SYDW vs SYTW Toss Prediction

The Sixers are 7-0 against the Thunder when batting first, so they’ll likely want to keep this up if winning the toss and force their opposition to chase.

Pitch and Conditions

It’s a balanced pitch typically without massive scores, but most teams prefer to bat first here anyway.

SYDW vs SYTW Betting Tips

The Sixers are the best team in the league for a reason and there’s no way they’ll lose to a bad side like the Thunder. Hopefully it’s an exciting game, but otherwise we expect the Sixers to roll over their Sydney rivals and keep the top spot.
