About the Match
The Super Stars registered a superb win against table toppers Victorians to win their first match of the series and collect 2 points; they are now in the fifth position and will take on Vikings, who are in the bottom of the table after another consecutive defeat but also have 2 points, on 2nd December at Chittagong. This contest will test the teams’ determination to stay alive in the series; Super Stars who have won their first game will be eager to continue with their good run whereas Vikings need to win the match to move up the ladder. We may witness some good cricketing effort here on with both sides coming out all guns blazing on Wednesday for the 18th game of the league as the competition gets heated up.
They lost their match against the Riders by 9 wickets, failing to defend the lowly target of 111 runs; although Tamim Iqbal led from the front with a good knock of 36 runs, others like Dilshan, Anamul Haque and Kamran Akmal lost their way and couldn’t build strong partnerships against the spinners.
Bowling was lacklustre as it was against the Bulls in the last game, which led to them giving away too many runs; failing to chase a massive 171-run target, the top-order didn’t live up to expectations and they were all-out for 137 runs. The consecutive losses would surely have hurt their morale but they need to bounce back with the resources at hand.
Mohammad Amir, Ziaur Rahman and Shafiul Islam have been taking wickets consistently; they need to bring out all their firepower and repeat their winning performance from the opening game of the season. The star-studded batting line-up must show its prowess now, before it’s too late to recover.
Sylhet Super Stars
Ravi Bopara struck gold against the Victorians as he came out with his all-rounder skills to take the team to their first win of the season; he claimed 4 wickets giving away just 18 runs, caused a run-out and stood strong during the chase with a brilliant half-century from just 38 deliveries. With good support from Munaweera and Mushfiqur Rahim, who made 36 and 47 runs respectively, the Stars chased 165 runs successfully with 2 balls to spare.
The other bowlers didn’t impress much with the ball as the experienced Rubel Hossain went for 12 runs per over, proving to be the costliest of the lot; Hammad Azam, Munaweera, Jayasuriya and Shahid also gave away too many runs but Bopara kept his nerves together and contributed well. On the batting front, it was a good effort overall but they need to continue with their performance in the upcoming games too.
In the earlier match against the Vikings, they had lost the contest by a painful margin of 1 run and will need to come back stronger here to avenge their defeat. The batting line-up looks impressive and if the bowlers can pull up their socks, the game could go in their favour yet again.
Vikings had defeated the Stars in the earlier game they fought against each other; however, their recent performances have been dismal. The Super Stars have received a major morale boost with a win in their last game and we feel that they are better placed to emerge victorious yet again
