About the Match
Victorians continued with their winning momentum as they defeated Dynamites by 10 runs to maintain the lead on the table with 8 points; they will take on Vikings, who defeated Stars in the last match by 10 wickets to climb one positon up to the fifth with 4 points, on 3rd December at Chittagong. The Vikings have bounced back after a string of losses but need to continue with their good performance if they want to climb up the ladder; Victorians on the other hand are flying high with consecutive wins and will definitely try to keep the good times rolling with another fight here on Thursday.
It was a dismal performance with the bat by the top order except for Litton Das, who scored 31 runs, and Ashar Zaidi who posted an unbeaten 45 from just 29 deliveries, in the last match against Dynamites; however, the bowlers defended 141 runs with ease as Hider, Shuvagata and Mortaza took key wickets and couple of run-outs caused by their excellent fielding. They did well to restrict the hard-hitting batsmen like Sangakkara to win the match by a narrow 10 runs.
In the previous match against Super Stars, although the batsmen had done extremely well to post 164 runs on the board, the bowlers couldn’t help them win the match despite Abu Hider’s amazing 4-28. Liton Das and Imrul Kayes scored 40+ runs while Ashar Zaidi posted a brilliant half-century to keep the scoreboard ticking. Kulasekara has been consistent with the ball and Hider continues to be vital to their squad.
Overall, they have had a good run so far but they cannot take the Vikings lightly here; when they met previously, the Victorians had chased 177 runs easily to win the match but they should be cautious here.
The Vikings yet again defeated the Stars, the only team they have won against so far, by 10 wickets after chasing 140 runs without a sweat. Tamim Iqbal and Dilshan plundered the opposition with 67 runs each and won the match with almost 4 overs to spare; they made mincemeat of the Stars bowlers like Sohail Tanvir, Abdur Razzak and Robel Hossain. Earlier, the bowlers combined well to take regular wickets and restrict the opposition to 139 runs.
In the previous match against Riders, the batsmen had failed to put up a strong fight and could muster only 111 runs batting first; the bowling too was lack-luster and they failed miserably to turn around the match. However, the recent win should have bolstered their confidence and we could see a whole different attitude from the players on the field in the upcoming games.
The Vikings have a strong batting line-up with players like Dilshan, Tamim Iqbal, and Anamul Haque; they must strategize well against bowlers like Hider and Kulasekara to pull off another win here.
While the Vikings have a long way to go, their recent morale boosting victory gives them an advantage here; Victorians on the other hand are a formidable force to reckon with and look better placed to win the contest.
