SYT vs ADS Match Prediction - Dec 16, 2022

The latest edition of the Big Bash League is now underway and the Adelaide Strikers will be looking to consolidate its position at the top of the points table as it takes on the Sydney Thunder in match number 5 on Friday.

There is little separating the two teams in terms of odds on offer from most betting sites. Punters are likely to find good value for their predictions if they fish around on some reputed sites.

SYT vs ADS Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder put up a gutsy show in the previous season, finishing 3rd on the points table. However, they were defeated in the qualifiers by this very opposition and failed to make it to the Challenger round.

Their opening match this season was against the Melbourne Stars, where they clinched 2 important points in the last ball thriller. Chasing a modest target of 123, Sydney Thunder lost wickets at regular intervals and appeared to be heading for an inevitable defeat. However, a superb cameo by Gurinder Sandhu lower down the order pushed Thunder over the finish line.

While Thunder has won the BBL just once, in the 2015-16 season, they have been pretty consistent with their performance of late, reaching the knockouts in each of the last 2 seasons. Playing without Usman Khwaja, the team is helmed by the talented Jason Sangha, who scored 445 runs at an average of 49.55 last season.

The team has also picked up some talented veterans in the form of David Warner, Rilee Rossouw, and Alex Hales. But the trio will be seen only in a few matches due to other commitments.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers bulldozed through the Sydney Sixers in their opening match on Wednesday, registering a 51-run lead over them. Opting to bat first, the Strikers posted a mammoth total of 184-6 in 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant 84-run inning by Matthew Short.

Henry Thornton and Rashid Khan were clinical with the ball, picking up 7 wickets between them, and never gave the Sixers a chance to come back into the game.

The team looks pretty balanced at this stage due to some good picks before the start of the season. While they had to let go of Matt Renshaw and Jon Wells, the Strikers have brought in Chris Lynn to strengthen the top order. Lynn will be playing 11 matches before his departure to the UAE, and Strikers will be hoping that he leaves the squad in a good position.

Other inclusions for the squad are in the form of all-rounders Rashid Khan, Colin de Grandhomme, and Adam Hose. Travis Head and Alex Carey are likely to join the squad for the final few matches of the season.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Sydney Showdown Stadium is good to bat on, and we are likely to have a high-scoring game on Friday. The track offers little in terms of help for the bowlers and tends to remain the same throughout the match. The average first innings score here is around 150 and can be considered to be a par score.

The weather is expected to remain chilly with gusts of wind reaching 35 km/h and the temperature remaining below 20 degrees Celsius.

SYT vs ADS Betting Tips

While both teams won their opening games, it was a pretty close affair for the Thunder, while the Strikers stamped their authority against the Sixers. Rashid Khan and Henry Thornton are also likely to test the batting of Sydney Thunder, and with that, we are backing the visitors to come up tops.

Bet on an Adelaide Strikers win.

Short was the top-scorer for the Strikers in their opening match, as he pummelled 84 off just 53 delivers. His BBL average for the last 9 matches is 49. Given that the pitch at Sydney is excellent to bat on, and he is facing an average bowling line-up in the form of Sydney Thunder, we can easily recommend an Over bet for this one.
