Every team in the Big Bash now has just two matches remaining and the league table is very tightly packed together. We could see dramatic changes in the positions of the teams till the very last match is played.
Sydney Thunder and the Adelaide Strikers play their final two matches against each other at the Adelaide Oval. That means we could have two high-scoring matches played to decide the fate of these two teams.
As things stand now, Sydney Thunder is in a better position than Adelaide Strikers (27 points vs 24) but neither team can afford to snooze. In fact, Adelaide needs to somehow find a way to win both of its matches otherwise it could find itself waiting on other results to go its way.
Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on the 24th of January 2021.
Alex Hales finally did what he has been threatening to do for a very long time and absolutely crushed the opposition bowling attack. He smashed a century and in the process led the Sydney Thunder to their highest ever total against the Sydney Sixers.
That is a great frame of mind to be in coming into these final two matches.
We think Sydney Thunder has more power in its batting and with Hales in top form, it has the edge over the Adelaide Strikers.
It is not just about Alex Hales either. Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson, Sam Billings, and Ben Cutting are all in good form and score very quickly indeed.
Thunder has decided to bring back Oliver Davies into the team and we know he can be a fearless hitter of the cricket ball as well.
The bowling attack is going to have to work hard at the Adelaide Oval. They are going to hope for something special from Adam Milne and Brendan Doggett upfront before Tanveer Sangha and Nathan McAndrew come into the picture.
AD Hales, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson, Oliver Davies, Sam Billings, Ben Cutting, Nathan McAndrew, Christopher Green, Adam Milne, Brendan Doggett, Tanveer Sangha.
Alex Carey smashed a century in the previous match and ensured that his team is in a good frame of mind as well coming into this match. The batting has been a bit problematic for the Adelaide Strikers and they have changed their batting order far too often for our liking.
As things stand, Carey and Weatherald are back at the top of the order followed by Travis Head, Phil Salt, and Matt Renshaw in the middle order.
This is a dangerous lineup for sure. We think Phil Salt and Matt Renshaw have underperformed this season but cannot be counted out. The license to play freely in the middle-order may be something they relish.
Peter Siddle, Wes Agar, Michael Neser, and Danny Briggs are going to lead the bowling attack.
While this is a tough team to come up against, the Adelaide Strikers will need to be at their best to trump Sydney Thunder.
Jake Weatherald, Alex Carey, Philip Salt, TM Head, Matt Renshaw, Ryan Gibson, Michael Neser, Danny Briggs, Wes Agar, Liam O'Connor, Peter Siddle.
The team that wins the toss may want to bat first. Both the two previous matches at the Adelaide Oval have seen huge scores batting first and that may be the preferred option. We don’t think winning the toss is a huge advantage, though.
Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.
There is no rain predicted for match day and so we should enjoy an uninterrupted contest between the two teams. The pitch has been very good for batting, and the square boundaries mean that sixes are always up for grabs.
Two centuries have been hit here in the previous two matches, one each from the two teams playing this match. We are not going to rule out another one in this contest either!
A score of around 180 should be the minimum that teams batting first aim for.
We think Sydney Thunder is the team to back in this contest. It has more power in its batting and has a more versatile side. Alex Hales is one of the most dangerous players in T20 cricket and his current form is a huge advantage for Sydney Thunder.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
