Brisbane Heat is seeing a return to form in the Big Bash as it climbs to third on the league table. It will now be traveling to the Sydney Showground stadium where it will be facing up against Sydney Thunder. This is a tricky match as Thunder has proved itself to be a formidable competitor this season. Despite contrasting starts to BBL 09, there is not too much separating these two sides.
If Brisbane Heat manages to win this match then it will have the same number of wins from the same number of matches as Sydney Thunder. If Sydney Thunder manages to win, though, then it will consolidate its third position on the BBL League table.
Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat BBL 09 is going to be played at the Sydney Showground Stadium, Sydney on the 6th of January 2020.
A narrow loss for Sydney Thunder against Melbourne Stars in the previous game signaled some weaknesses in the Sydney Thunder batting. They have been lucky to have got the best of Callum Ferguson in BBL 09 so far as he continues to score runs in almost every match.
Ferguson was instrumental in winning Sydney Thunder the match against Brisbane Heat when they mat in the inaugural match of BBL 09 as well.
Alex Hales, Usman Khawaja, and Callum Ferguson are the top-3 for Sydney Thunder and have done well generally in this tournament. Khawaja will face some short-pitched bowling from the Brisbane Heat quicks, as he always does, while Hales is going to receive some spin upfront.
Thunder can afford to take a bit of time at the top and protect its wickets because the middle-order to follow is pretty strong.
Alex Ross, Chris Morris, and Daniel Sams are all good hitters of the cricket ball even though they have not quite managed to perform in BBL 09 so far.
The spin duo of Chris Green and Arjun Nair managed to wrap up the Brisbane Heat batsmen in tangles during the previous time they met. This is exactly what the plan will be on a surface that offers some help to the slower bowlers.
Chris Morris, Daniel Sams, and Nathan McAndrew should make for a good combination. It remains to be seen whether Cook gets recalled for this game or not.
Usman Khawaja, AD Hales, Callum Ferguson, M Gilkes, Alex Ross, Chris Morris, Daniel Sams, Christopher Green, Arjun Nair, CP Tremain, Brendan Doggett.
We knew Brisbane Heat had one of the best batting lineups in the entire Big Bash and they have been proving that in the recent matches. Excellent form for Chris Lynn and finally some runs for Max Bryant make the Brisbane Heat batting quite dangerous.
Tom Banton has given us glimpses of what he is capable of but he needs to be more consistent as well.
With Matt Renshaw and Ben Cutting in very good form, the Brisbane Heat lineup just keeps coming at you. It is remarkable that a player like Jimmy Pierson has not had much to do in the recent few matches and is just cooling his heels in the dressing room.
The tricky part for this Brisbane Heat lineup is going to be finding a way of combating the spinners. We would not mind seeing Matt Renshaw up the order just to try to change things up a bit and find a way to make life difficult for the Thunder spinners.
Mitch Swepson is expected to be back for this match and we think that he is going to play alongside Zahir Khan in this match. If the Sydney Showground surface does help the spinners, then Brisbane Heat does not want to be left short-staffed in that department.
Ben Laughlin, Josh Lalor, and Mark Steketee are the other bowlers that we see playing this match.
If Steketee can generate some pace early and make life difficult for the Thunder openers, then Heat is going to have a very good chance of winning this match.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first

The weather is expected to finally relent and some rain is expected later in the day. While this may not be very good news for cricket, the region desperately needs some rain to try and douse the bushfires. The current forecast suggests that the rain might arrive at the end of the second inning or even after the match has been completed.
The pitch at the Sydney Showground stadium always helps the spinners a little and the same can be expected for this match as well.
We think that Sydney Thunder has an advantage because of the kind of surface this match is being played. Brisbane Heat’s batsmen like the ball coming on to the bat and can struggle on slower wickets.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
