SYT vs BH Match & Analysis

These are early days in the ongoing Big Bash League but there is a clear line of separation emerging between the teams at the top and the ones at the bottom. Melbourne Stars seem to be running away with the lead as they currently have eight points with a net run-rate of 1.218. Right at the opposite are the two teams that are still searching for their first win.

Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat are the two teams that are in the bottom half of the table. They both have played only one game in the tournament thus far and can pretty much turn things around in the matches to follow. They are set to meet each other in the upcoming BBL match on Monday, 14th December at Manuka Oval, Canberra. Given that momentum can play a significant role in the shortest version of the game, both sides will be desperate to their first win of the tournament. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.

SYT vs BH Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

Syndey Thunder did reasonably well last year as they bowed out of the competition after reaching the challenger final stage. They started off pretty well, registering three wins in their first five matches, but their campaign was more or less a struggle in the middle part of the tournament. As was the case with many teams, Melbourne Stars proved to be their wrecker-in-chief as Stars defeated the Thunder in a virtual semi-final contest.

Given what has been happening all around us, Sydney Thunder seems to be the team that is least affected. None of their players will be away to play for Australia, allowing Thunder plenty of options as far as domestic talent is concerned. Overseas as well, they have a decent contingent available with Sam Billings likely to join the team after Christmas. Hales and Milne, however, are available right from the start.

The Thunder are coming off an embarrassing at the hands of Melbourne Stars in the only match that the Thunders have played. While the bowlers did a decent job for the Thunder, their batsmen failed to finish the deal despite dictating terms for the most part of their chase. Tanveer Sangha and Daniel Sams were brilliant with the ball as they picked up a couple of wickets each without giving a lot away. Chris Green returned with a couple of wickets as well, but he was a tad too expensive as he gave away 42 runs in his four overs.

With the bat, Thunder lost Usman Khawaja in their chase of 170, but a solid partnership between Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson not only brought them back into the business but also pushed them onto the driving seat. They needed 55 off the last five overs with Alex Ross, Ben Cutting, and Daniel Sams available, but managed to score only 32. Ferguson top-scored for them with a 35-ball 54 and Hales scored 46 off 41.

It was surprising to see Alex Hales sit out the first match given how lethal he can be. He has picked up 116 wickets at an economy of 7.65 in the T20s that he has played. Perhaps Thunder missed a trick by keeping him out of the opening match. Other than that, it was all about execution for the Thunders and after a defeat in the first match, we expect them to come back harder and stronger.

Sydney Thunder Playing 11

AD Hales, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson, Alex Ross, Ben Cutting, Daniel Sams, Christopher Green, Baxter J Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Jonathan Cook, Tanveer Sangha.

Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat had a poor last season and they haven't started on a happy note this year either. Their plans were hit by Tom Banton's withdrawal from the tournament and Mujeeb ur Rahman's positive Covid-19 test aggravated their condition even further. Things, however, are returning back to track. Mujeeb has already recovered and can feature in the upcoming encounter.

Heat are also impacted by India's tour of Australia as their three players will be out on international duty. Joe Burns, Mitchell Swepson, and Marnus Labuschagne will all be unavailable, leaving Brisbane Heat longing for balance. The good news for Heat is that Chris Lynn is not only fit and available but is also coming off terrific form in the local matches that he played.

On paper, Brisbane Heat are a decent side, but their over-dependency on Chris Lynn is well and truly apparent. With Ben Cutting no longer available and Banton pulling out of the tournament, it would be up to Chris Lynn to keep the innings afloat and strike the lofty hits Brisbane Heat. They do have a few other players who can do the job, the experience or lack thereof could be an issue.

In their first match, Brisbane Heat failed to make a mark in any department of the game as they bundled out for a total of 125 runs batting first. It was never a total that could trouble the Stars and it didn't prove to be any different. Their bowlers did well to pick up four wickets and drag the match into the 18th over, but otherwise, there was nothing in the match for Brisbane Heat.

Batting clearly seems to be the weaker link for Brisbane Heat and they'd need their other batsmen to support Chris Lynn. If Chris Lynn is able to fire, there aren't a lot of bowlers that can stop him. Overall, Brisbane Heat are capable of defeating even the best in the business, but they'd need to put their best foot forward.

Brisbane Heat Playing 11

Sam Heazlett, Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Daniel Lawrence, TLW Cooper, Jack Wildermuth, Jimmy Peirson, Mark Steketee, Matt Kuhnemann, Ben Laughlin, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

SYT vs BH Betting Tips

Considering that both sides are coming off massive defeats in their previous respective matches, both sides will be desperate got get off the mark. One thing common between the two sides is that they both were defeated by Melbourne Stars. Sydney Thunder appear to be having a more complete side as compared to the Heat. Their batsmen appeared to be in decent form in the last match before fumbling in the final few moments. With a good amalgamation of you and experience, Thunder certainly seem to be better equipped to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
