SYT vs BH Match Prediction - Dec 27, 2022

The Sydney Thunder will be looking to get back to winning ways, as they take on the Brisbane Heat in match number 17 of the ongoing season of the Big Bash League.

Both the teams haven’t had the best of starts to the season and are languishing in the bottom half of the points table. Nevertheless, they still have plenty of matches to play and we surely expect them to bounce back.

SYT vs BH Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

Much was expected of the Sydney Thunder after they managed to reach the knockout stage last time around, but they are off to a nightmarish start this season.

Sydney Thunder defeated the Melbourne Stars in a last-ball thriller in the opening match, but things have gone rapidly downhill since then. Their much-touted batting line-up, featuring the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Alex Hales, and Jason Sangha was brought to knees by a rampant Adelaide Strikers bowling attack in the second match, where they were bundled out for a paltry score of 15, which is a record for the lowest ever team total in T20 format.

While the batting seems to have improved after that shock defeat, the team’s fortunes haven’t changed, as they have now lost 3 consecutive matches. The franchise also had to terminate the contract of Fazalhaq Farooqi due to complaints about his behavior.

The bowlers have been a bit better off compared to the batsmen. Gurinder Sandhu and Daniel Sams have both picked up 7 wickets, while Brendan Doggett has 4.

Brisbane Heat

Just like their opponents, the Brisbane Heat haven’t had the best of starts this season. However, after losing their first 2 matches, Brisbane has finally managed to get some points against their name as they defeated table toppers, Adelaide, in their latest encounter.

Openers Max Bryant and Colin Munro haven’t been in the best of forms and have failed to give their team the best of starts. Matt Renshaw seems to be struggling a bit at the moment. The squad is sorely missing the services of its most prolific scorer, Chris Lynn, who was picked up by the Strikers. However, Sam Billings and Jimmy Peirson have been solid in the middle order.

Billings has scored 110 runs so far, including a half-century, while Peirson has scored a total of 89 runs in 3 innings. The team will be eagerly waiting for Usman Khwaja and Marnus Labuschagne to join them, but both are unavailable at this stage due to international duties. Mark Steketee has been the pick of the bowlers and has picked up 7 wickets in 3 matches, while Michael Neser has picked up 6 from just 2 games.

The spin department feels a bit lacking at this stage, especially after the departure of Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Pitch and Conditions

The track at the Sydney Showground Stadium is a balanced one, providing equal opportunities to both, bowlers as well as batsmen. The bounce on offer is good, providing the batsmen ample opportunities to play their shots. That said, the quicker bowlers will enjoy bowling here, thanks to some movement off the seam.

It was on this very ground that the Thunders were bowled out for a record-low score. The weather is expected to remain between 19-26 degrees Celsius with clear skies.

SYT vs BH Betting Tips

Both the teams have been far from perfect this season so far and need to improve in quite a few areas going forward. However, we feel that the visitors hold a slight edge here due to a stronger batting order, especially in the middle order.

The batting for the Sydney Thunder simply hasn’t fired yet and we expect their struggles to continue.
