SYT vs BH Match Prediction - Jan 27, 2023

The Hurricanes must have been celebrating when they heard that they reached the BBL playoffs after defeating the Heat by only two runs… but then everything changed after the Thunder beat the Stars.

The ladder was altered so that the Thunder picked up the No. 4 spot and unfortunately, the Hurricanes were bumped down to no. 6 and will miss out on a Finals chance.

The Heat will face the Thunder in the Eliminator matchup.

SYT vs BH Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder managed to squeeze into the BBL playoffs with a narrow victory over the Stars. It was a pretty poor batting/bowling effort from the Thunder, as many of the well-known players failed to really help the team.

Gilkes was out for 20 and Warner made just two runs (just 63 runs overall from five matches), but what’s also surprising is the usually reliable Oliver Davies out for only eight runs. Davies has scored 334 overall this season, but it’s worrying for the next match against the Heat, as he’s made only 10 runs in his last three games.

Sydney will have David Warner for The Eliminator matchup, but what they really need is Davies and Ross to have over 50 runs each, as well as Sams (17 total wickets) and McAndrew to both go for 2/20.

The Thunder have been quite bad this season but still somehow have a 7-7 record, but the team just doesn’t look great right now and the stars aren’t playing like they should.

Sydney Thunder Playing 11

David Warner, Matthew Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Ben Cutting, Nathan McAndrew, Chris Green, Ross Pawson, Usman Qadir.

Brisbane Heat

The Heat were rolling with four straight wins but somehow lost to a poor Hobart team on the last match of the season. Still, as fate would have it, Brisbane has a shot at the Finals after ending the campaign with a 6-7 record.

The Heat bowlers certainly did their job against the Hurricanes, as fast bowler Michael Neser picked up 4/35 and took his total to 22 (third-best in BBL). Bazley has been great but will need to improve, as even though he’s got 15 wickets overall, he’s often only getting one wicket per game.

The Brisbane batters were a letdown against Hobart, as the Big 3 of Renshaw, Labuschagne, and Khawaja combined for just 17 runs. All three will depart for the Test series against India before the BBL Final, but they’ve got to help more than that.

Luckily, the Heat have a great chance over the Thunder with the form of Sam Hain (143 total runs) and Jimmy Peirson (323 total runs). Both have been batting incredibly well lately and it’s a positive sign for the future that these two can carry the team.

Brisbane Heat Playing 11

Usman Khawaja, Josh Brown, Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw, Sam Hain, Jimmy Peirson, James Bazley, Michael Neser, Spencer Johnson, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Kuhnemann.

SYT vs BH Toss Prediction

The Heat seem to be better at batting second when playing the Thunder, so it seems likely they’ll rely on their bowling and field first if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch has favoured pace bowlers in the past, so Neser will have a great time with his fast bowling attack.

SYT vs BH Betting Tips

The Heat just edged their way into the playoffs, but the squad on paper still looks great. It’s hard to ignore the talents of younger players like Renshaw, Peirson, and Hain, not to mention the experience of Labuschagne and Khawaja. If all these star players can put together a fantastic performance, then they’ll defeat the Thunder easily.

We don’t trust the Thunder at the moment, as Davies and Warner have been getting worse each game. Plus, Neser is one of the top BBL bowlers right now, and he’ll make life tough for the Sydney batters. As Sydney haven’t looked so good all season, and the Heat have the better squad, we have to go with Brisbane to be victorious in the Eliminator and advance to the next round.

The odds are pretty close for both teams, but the Heat is a surer bet and worth it.

Bet on Brisbane for the win.
