Sydney Thunder was off to a disastrous start this season as they stumbled to the lowest-ever total in a T20 match, against the Adelaide Strikers, in their second match of the season. However, after suffering 3 losses in 4 matches, Sydney Thunder seems to have struck some form and has won each of their last two matches.

Thunder’s experienced international duo of Alex Hales and Rilee Rossouw seem to have warmed up nicely in the last couple of matches and have got some important runs under their belt. Sydney Thunder hosted Brisbane Heat earlier this week and chased down the target of 122 in the 12th over without losing a wicket.

This huge win helped the home team boost their NRR which had received quite a beating after their record loss. Thunder once again defeated Brisbane in their latest outing, this time in their backyard. A solid start provided by Matthew Gilkes and Rilee Rossouw and a cameo by Daniel Sams propelled the visitors to 182-6. Later on, Nathan McAndrew and Chris Green bowled well to ensure that the hosts didn’t get an opportunity to cross the target.

With back-to-back wins, Sydney Thunder has now moved on to the 5th place and needs one more win to break into the top half in the points table. 

Hobart Hurricanes

Just like their opponents, the Hurricanes have lacked consistency in their performances this season and have alternated between a victory and a loss in the 4 matches that they have played so far.

Their most recent match, played against the Melbourne Renegades, was a low-scoring affair. Batting first, the Hurricanes were bundled out with just 122 on the board and appeared to be heading towards a second consecutive loss.

However, the bowlers kept a tight leash on the Renegades’ batting and never let them free their arms. Shadab Khan and Riley Meredith picked up 3 wickets each, while Patrick Dooley and Joel Paris picked up 2 wickets each to limit the opposition to just 114, handing the hosts an 8-run win. Matthew Wade and Tim David have been the best batsmen for the Hurricanes so far, with the former scoring 101 runs in his 3 innings, including a half-century.

Shadab Khan has been a decent all-rounder, picking up 7 wickets and scoring 57 runs. Patrick Dooley has been excellent with the ball for the Hurricanes and will play an important role in this match too.
