SYT vs MLR Match Prediction - Jan 19, 2023

The matches in the BBL are really heating up, as the third-placed Renegades will battle the sixth-placed Thunder. Things are going well for Melbourne, with three wins out of their last five games, although the Thunder are struggling with three straight losses.

SYT vs MLR Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder are heading down and down the ladder, and it doesn’t look good after a weak performance against the Hurricanes. The Thunder managed only 135 runs, which the Hurricanes easily made in the second innings after 16 overs.

Apart from Oliver Davies, there’s not much to be excited about regarding batting in this Thunder team. Davies has a solid 323 total runs this season and has hit three half-centuries in his last five games. Gilkes, Whiteman, and even David Warner have been pretty disappointing in recent matches, but it’s hard to doubt Warner especially, as he scored 200 in the second Test against South Africa.

Bowling is certainly one of the flimsiest parts of this Thunder roster, as there doesn’t appear to be anyone that opposing batters fear. We do like the emergence of left arm fast/medium bowler, Daniel Sams, who has taken 15 total wickets and was superb against the Hurricanes with 4/18.

Sydney Thunder Playing 11

David Warner, Matthew Gilkes, Blake Nikitaras, Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Ben Cutting, Nathan McAndrew, Chris Green, Brendan Doggett, Usman Qadir.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades managed to win the tense Melbourne derby with the Stars after making a convincing 162 runs. Sam Harper’s 51 runs and Jonathan Wells’ 44 were a major help, especially as Finch only managed 13 and Peter Handscomb is out with an injury.

Harper is catching up quickly to Finch in the total runs, as the young star has 230 and is rapidly turning into the team’s best batter. This is good news, as Finch is getting older and the team needs to look to the future.

The bowling continues to be strong for the Renegades, as both Tom Rogers (19 total wickets) and Kane Richardson took two wickets in the victory. Richardson’s 4.25 ER really assisted in keeping the Renegades in the driver’s seat.

Pitch and Conditions

Batters love Manuka Oval because the pitch is one of the most predictable in the BBL. Batsmen can judge the direction and bounce of the ball far easier than in other venues. It’s also a very fast outfield.

SYT vs MLR Betting Tips

Strangely, the odds are almost exactly the same for each team to win in this Renegades/Thunder matchup. It feels like the Renegades are the much better team right now, and the Thunder don’t appear trustworthy at all for betting on.

Harper and Finch’s batting combined with Rogers and Richardson’s bowling makes the Renegades a superior side and a better choice today.

Bet on the Renegades to win.
