The Big Bash League is back after a short break and we have Sydney Thunder taking on the Melbourne Renegades. Two wins in its previous two matches have left Sydney Thunder in a comfortable position on the league table right now. The team seems to be progressing nicely and most of its senior players are performing well.
The Melbourne Renegades, on the other hand, has lost its last two matches. The team is firmly in the bottom half of the table and will be hoping that the return of Aaron Finch will spark a win to get the campaign back on track.
Neither team is without its flaws and that is what makes this contest very intriguing.
Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne renegades BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Manuka Oval, Canberra on the 26th of December 2020.
Sydney Thunder has won its previous two matches chasing but we still think its batting is far from its best right now. It took a brilliant inning from Daniel Sams and one from Callum Ferguson in the second inning to get it the wins.
The team management would be hoping for some runs from Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales very soon otherwise the team is going to struggle massively against better bowling attacks.
That being said, Ben Cutting has been an excellent addition to the team and Oliver Davies was very impressive in the previous match as well. Baxter Holt and Daniel Sams also have some runs under their belt this season to give Sydney Thunder a decent amount of batting depth.
Adam Milne made an immediate impact in the previous match and kept the runs tight. He should be in the wickets very soon. Daniel Sams, Tanveer Sangha, Chris Green, and Nathan McAndrew give Sydney Thunder a pretty effective bowling attack.
They should be able to challenge the batting might of the Melbourne Renegades.
AD Hales, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson, Oliver Davies, Baxter J Holt, Ben Cutting, Daniel Sams, Christopher Green, Nathan McAndrew, Adam Milne, Tanveer Sangha.
Aaron Finch is expected to be available for selection for this match and that is a big advantage for the Melbourne Renegades. His return strengthens an already strong batting line-up with the likes of Sam Harper, Shaun Marsh, Rilee Rossouw, and Mohammad Nabi.
With enough batting firepower to get the better of any team, this is where the Melbourne Renegades will believe they can break the game open. Expect them to go hard at the start and then continue in the same fashion throughout.
The Melbourne Renegades struggled with the ball in their previous match and will be hoping for a better performance. They have Josh Lalor to try and pick up wickets upfront while Kane Richardson is usually very dependable at the death.
Kane Richardson has been very expensive in recent matches and that opens up a potential weakness in the bowling unit. Noor Ahmad bowled well in the previous match while Mohammad Nabi is always steady in his performances.
The Melbourne Renegades need their batting to do the heavy lifting because the bowling looks a bit on the weaker side. The other team is always going to have a chance when the Melbourne Renegades are defending a total.
Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch, Sam Harper, Rilee Rossouw, BJ Webster, Mohammad Nabi, SI Wasim, Will Sutherland, KW Richardson, Zak Evans, Peter Hatzoglou.
The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first. Sydney Thunder has won its previous two matches defending while the Melbourne Renegades were unable to defend a total in their previous match and so both teams will be keen to chase.

The Manuka Oval has provided us with a good batting pitch for every match this summer. That means there should plenty of runs on offer in this match as well. The spinners have had a bit of help during the matches in Canberra and so that is something to watch out for.
Something around 170 should be par batting first.
We are going to back Sydney Thunder to continue its winning runs in this match. It has a strong batting lineup that has yet to really play to its potential and the bowling attack is pretty good as well. Most importantly, the young players for Sydney Thunder are playing well and that is a massive boost because the senior players are going to come good sooner rather than later as well.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
