Sydney Thunder is right in the top half of the Big Bash league table right now and is going through a purple patch in terms of its results. A win in this match will actually see it go to the very top of the standings.
They are going to be taking on the Melbourne Stars, one of the pre-tournament favorites and a side that is filled with some of the best T20 players on the planet. They have, however, stumbled a bit in their previous two matches and are in need of a win now.
The prospect of these two teams taking on each other at the high-scoring Manuka Oval is pretty exciting!
Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Stars BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Manuka Oval, Canberra on the 29th of December 2020.
Sydney Thunder has been one of the best teams of the BBL this season and that is because of the youngsters that it seems to have unearthed. We are talking about players like Tanveer Sangha, Oliver Davies, and Baxter Holt.
All of them have performed admirably so far and been able to cover up the shortcomings of some of their senior players.
We like the batting lineup of Sydney Thunder. It has experience at the top, power in the middle, and a lot of players that are in form. They have also not really seen their best players fire so the improvement possible in their team is tremendous as well.
Adam Mine, Tanveer Sangha, and Daniel Sams lead a pretty decent bowling attack as well. We are not convinced about Chris green with his remodeled action but he seems to be getting away pretty okay. Nathan McAndrew is also a good bowler to have.
Usman Khawaja, AD Hales, Callum Ferguson, Oliver Davies, Sam Billings, Ben Cutting, Daniel Sams, Christopher Green, Adam Milne, CP Tremain, Tanveer Sangha.
The Melbourne Stars would have felt a bit unlucky after losing their previous match. Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran put on one of the best displays of hitting that we have seen in a long long time.
They smashed thirteen sixes between them and ensured that the Stars recovered from a poor start. The bowlers, though, could not quite come up with the good later. The Stars are a bit too dependent on Maxwell right now and that is a concern.
None of the other batsmen, apart from Pooran in the previous game, have delivered so far. The absence of Marcus Stoinis is proving to be a very big setback for the Stars.
The Stars went the distance with the ball in the previous match but their bowling attack is pretty good quality. Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa, Billy Stanlake, and Zahir Khan are all very good T20 bowlers.
This is one area that the Stars do not need to change much but just get a bit more consistency in their game.
Good form or not, this is a very tough team to beat.
Marcus Stoinis, ADS Fletcher, Hilton Cartwright, Glenn Maxwell, Nicholas Pooran, Nic Maddinson, Adam Zampa, Liam Hatcher, Billy Stanlake, Lance Morris, Zahir Khan.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. The Manuka Oval has been pretty high-scoring this summer and we could have a high scoring game in which defending the total is difficult.

The pitch is excellent for batting at the Manuka Oval and the weather is also forecast to be sunny. We should be able to enjoy a full uninterrupted match. The bounce in the wicket and a little bit of spin keeps the bowlers in with a shot as well.
Scores of around 170 have been par at this venue.
We think Sydney Thunder is the team to back in this contest. Not only is the team enjoying a rich vein of form but it also appears to be less dependent on individual performances than the Melbourne Stars.
Of course, the Stars are an excellent team as well but that is why you will get very attractive odds on Sydney Thunder.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
