SYT vs PER Match Prediction - Dec 22, 2020

The Big Bash is going to move to Canberra for this next match as Sydney Thunder gets ready to take on the Perth Scorchers. Both these teams are firmly in the bottom half of the BBL 2020-21 standings right now but there is still plenty of time left to turn things around.

The Perth Scorchers could have registered their first win of this season against the Melbourne Stars but the rain forced the match to be abandoned before a result was possible. Sydney Thunder won its game against Brisbane Heat thanks to some genius hitting from Daniel Sams and Ben Cutting at the end.

Plenty of things to work on for both the teams then.

Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Manuka Oval, Canberra on the 22nd of December 2020.

SYT vs PER Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder was lucky to walk away with a win in its previous match against Brisbane Heat. Daniel Sams played an extraordinary inning coming in late to allow them to chase down 179.

Thunder has to be better in this game against the Scorchers in both the batting and the bowling departments. One positive is that Adam Milne is going to be available for Sydney Thunder from this match and we think he is going to slot straight into the team.

Nathan McAndrew looks like the player that is most likely to miss out. We think Sydney Thunder has a decent bowling attack but there are some weaknesses to be exploited.

Chris Green is a very different bowler after remodeling his action and we are not sure if he is going to be as effective as he once was. Jonathan Cook and T Sangha could both go for runs on a bad day and that is bound to happen at some time in this BBL.

The batting order is a lot more settled. Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales, Callum Ferguson, Alex Ross, Baxter Holt, and Ben Cutting form a pretty useful lineup. There is experience at the top, power in the middle, and a fair bit of depth as well.

Sydney Thunder is a dangerous team but needs to ensure its best players hit form sooner rather than later.

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers were denied the opportunity of pressing for a win against the Melbourne Stars in their previous match but there are still many positives for them to take away.

The biggest positive would the batting form of Ashton Turner and Colin Munro. Both the players played very well in the previous match and were striking the ball beautifully. Turner hit five sixes in his 17 ball stay and showed glimpses of his best form.

Josh Inglis, Joe Clarke, and Mitchell Marsh add a lot of heft to the batting as well.

Cameron Bancroft looks a bit lost down the order and we think he may be playing for his place in the next couple of matches. Still, the Perth Scorchers have a very explosive batting lineup that has been aggressive from start to the end. In fact, tempering that aggression into a more controlled manner may be something that the Scorchers can work on.

The Scorchers really need their bowling to come together to be able to mount a serious challenge for the BBL title this season. Jhye Richardson was considered as one of the best fast bowlers in the country till last year but has fallen away a bit.

He, Andrew Tye, Fawad Ahmed, and Joel Paris form an all-international bowling attack. With Aaron Hardie in there as well, we think the Perth Scorchers should be able to find their rhythm with the ball pretty soon as well.

Josh Inglis, Colin Munro, Joe Clarke, Mitchell Marsh, AJ Turner, CT Bancroft, Aaron Hardie, Jhye Richardson, AJ Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed.

SYT vs PER Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. That has been the trend in T20 matches ever since the format came into existence although we don’t think winning the toss is going to be a huge advantage at this venue.

Pitch and Conditions

There is a bit of rain in the area but nothing that should seriously affect the match. The pitch at the Manuka Oval is usually very good, and we could have a high-scoring match to enjoy. One side of the ground is pretty small and that will be targeted for sure.

We think a total of around 175 is going to be par for this match.

SYT vs PER Betting Tips

We are going to stick with the Perth Scorchers in this match. We believe this is a team that has a lot of unrealized potential and is only just coming into its best form. Sydney Thunder is dangerous, like any other BBL team, but there are some holes in its bowling that can be exploited.

Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
