The final match of the BBL 09 group stage for both the Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers has a lot at stake. Both teams are in the running for a place in the BBL 09 Finals and the result of this match could have a big bearing on their position.
The situation is relatively simple. Both teams need to win and will qualify if they do so. There is going to be nothing held back by either team in this match.
Sydney Thunder has lost its previous two matches coming into this contest including one to the Perth Scorchers. Turning things around is not going to be easy but they have home advantage to bank on.
Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Sydney Showground Stadium on the 26th of January 2020.
Sydney Thunder has been struggling to find any kind of form in the last few weeks of BBL 09. Just two wins out of its last eight matches paint a grim picture and it is going to be very hard for the side to be able to find a way into the BBL finals.
Thunder is up against the Perth Scorchers, a side that has been in good form recently and is scoring some big runs. That is exactly what Sydney Thunder needs to do in this match as well.
Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales, and Callum Ferguson were in fantastic touch early in the season and getting the job done for Sydney Thunder. While Alex Hales has continued to score runs, he has not been getting too much support from the others.
The players to follow are bot the best and we don’t like the Sydney Thunder batting lineup too much at all. Alex Ross, Chris Morris, Jay Lenton, and Daniel Sams have all struggled to leave much of a mark so far and expecting them to do so in this final match may be a bit optimistic.
Daniel Sams is the leading wicket-taker of BBL 09 and fully deserves that position. He has been a prolific wicket-taker and is effective at all stages in the competition. Chris Morris, Gurinder Sandhu, Arjun Nair, and Jonathan Cook are the other players in the Sydney Thunder that will help fulfill the bowling duties.
Not the best side overall but one that can cause some upsets on its day.
Callum Ferguson, Jonathan Cook, AD Hales, Usman Khawaja, Jay Lenton, Chris Morris, Arjun Nair, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Gurinder Sandhu, CP Tremain.
A poor batting performance from the Perth Scorchers cost it the match against the Adelaide Strikers. Liam Livingstone scored 79 at the top of the order but no one else really stood up and contributed. It seems as if the Perth Scorchers have settled on a lineup comprising Josh Inglis, Liam Livingstone, Kurtis Patterson, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner, Cameron Bancroft, and Ashton Agar.
That is an excellent lineup on paper with plenty of depth to it. There are capable batsmen down till number seven which is much more than what Sydney Thunder has at its disposal.
There is no question that the Perth Scorchers have a stronger lineup even though they are coming into this match after a poor performance.
Fawad Ahmed and Ashton Agar should enjoy the conditions at the Sydney Showground Stadium. Both of these spinners have the experience needed to make the most of any help that the conditions will offer them.
Jhye Richardson, Chris Jordan, and Mathew Kelly round off a very good bowling attack. Mitchell Marsh has been pretty useful with the ball whenever he has taken the opportunity to roll his arm over.
We have been bullish on the Perth Scorchers from the very beginning and the side has not always repaid the faith. They have been guilty of underperforming their potential but a place in the BBL 09 Finals may just be the motivation they need.
Josh Inglis, Liam Livingstone, AJ Turner, CT Bancroft, Tim David, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Marsh, Jhye Richardson, Morne Morkel, Matthew Kelly, Fawad Ahmed.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

There is some rain expected during the match and we can expect some delays in this match. Both the sides would want a result to be achieved since it affects their places in the final table standings. The pitch has been pretty slow at this venue and that is not going to be different. The small boundaries allow for plenty of big-hits which could favor the strong Perth Scorchers side.
A total of about 160 should be considered par while batting first.
We are backing the Perth Scorchers in this match to get the job done. They have been in much better form than Sydney Thunder and have a better side on paper as well. Both sides have a decent bowling attack but the batting strength of the Perth Scorchers could be the difference in this contest.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
