SYT vs SYD Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 08, 2023
The Battle of Sydney will take place with the Thunder vs. Sixers at the Sydney Showground pitch. Although the Sixers are first on the table with 11 points, the Thunder aren’t far behind in third with 10 points.
While the Sixers are still considered the favourite, the odds are pretty much even. Both teams are playing great cricket at the moment, with the Thunder especially on a roll with four straight wins.
SYT vs SYD Team Previews
Sydney Thunder
The Thunder have the chance to take the top spot in the league and prove that they’re the best team in Sydney. We’re seeing fantastic batting from the likes of Alex Hales (245 runs) and Oliver Davies (226), and either one has the ability to go well past a half-century in any match. We’d like more from top-order batter, Rilee Rossouw, who has just 127 runs in eight matches.
Daniel Sams (11 wickets) and Nathan McAndrew (11) have been the star bowlers for the Thunder and have the skill to give trouble to the Sixers’ batters. McAndrew’s 3/29 against the Scorchers was a real eye-opener as to his bowling in 2023. Keep an eye out for Chris Green, too, as here’s a spinner with six wickets and a great ER of 5.79.

Sydney Sixers
There’s no doubt that English batter James Vince is one of the major reasons for the Sixers’ success in the BBL. If his 91* in the close victory over the Stars wasn’t enough, Vince is also piling on the runs with 258 overall (third-best in the league).
Vince is crucial to the side, but there’s also a lot of help from the likes of Josh Philippe (170 runs) and Jordan Silk (197). Captain Moises Henriques has been leading the team well in the field, although his presence with the bat is fairly underwhelming so far, with only 113 runs and no score higher than 52*.
Much of the bowling will be down to Sean Abbott (13 wickets) and allrounder Hayden Kerr (11 wickets) to take down the tough Thunder batting lineup. Abbott’s 3/31 against the Stars certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed by opposing batsmen!

Pitch and Conditions
Thankfully, no rain is predicted for the match, as Sydney has been experiencing a lot of wet weather that has affected the Australia vs. South Africa Test series. The pitch at the Sydney Showground is typically very bouncy that is suited for pace bowlers. Scores around 150 are common, but the stats are fairly even in terms of wins from teams batting first or second.
SYT vs SYD Betting Tips
It’s going to be a tough matchup as both teams are excellent in the BBL right now, but as the odds are so close, we’ll go with the Thunder to win. It’s worth it, as they’ve got a great lineup of batters and bowlers, plus, they’ve won four in a row and look to keep it up. Hales and Davies will have to perform at their very best to secure a victory.
Bet on the Thunder to win.
