SYT vs SYD Match Prediction - Jan 18, 2020

The first time Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers met each other in BBL 09 the match ended in a tie after 40 overs and it took the Super Over to decide the winner. The Sydney Sixers ended up on the winning side then and have since continued their good form to sit at second place on the BBL 09 league table.

Sydney Thunder is currently in sixth place and in need of some wins to climb back up the standings. The recent form for Sydney Thunder has not been good as they have lost four out of the last five matches they have played.

Sydney Sixers will be targeting a double in the Sydney Derby this season as they travel to the Thunder home ground for this match.

Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Sydney Showground Stadium, Sydney on the 18th of January 2020.

SYT vs SYD Team Previews

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder lost to the Melbourne Renegades in a rain-affected game in its previous match. That was the first time that any team has lost to the Melbourne Renegades this season and that is not a good look for Sydney Thunder.

There were a few positives to take from that game, though. Alex Hales continued his good form and Alex Ross looked in very good touch as well.

The problem of Sydney Thunder’s short batting lineup is still present but at least the top-order looks in good touch. Callum Ferguson and Usman Khawaja may have missed out in the previous match but they both have been scoring runs prolifically in BBL 09.

Chris Morris, Jonathan Cook, and Daniel Sams are the leading bowlers for Sydney Thunder. No bowler has taken more wickets than Daniel Dams in BBL 09 till now and he is a huge asset for Sydney Thunder. He bowls at the death or whenever a partnership needs to be broken and has delivered on more occasions than not.

The loss of Chris Green to the bowling attack has been a pretty significant one as Sydney Thunder has slipped from that point on. The current loss of form, the weakened bowling attack, and the short batting attack all point to some further pain for Sydney Thunder in BBL 09.

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers could not get any sort of result in their previous match against the Hobart Hurricanes as the rain played spoilsport. We did get a chance to see the playing eleven for the Sydney Sixers, though, and that should give us some clues as to what we can expect for this match.

Josh Phillipe, Daniel Hughes, James Vince, Moises Henriques, and Jordan Silk can be expected to lead the batting lineup for the Sydney Sixers. This is a strong batting lineup with more power and depth in its side than the Sydney Thunder batting unit.

Josh Phillipe has been the best batsman for Sydney Sixers but we think Daniel Hughes, James Vince, and Moises Henriques are all very close to a big score themselves.

The bowling for Sydney Sixers is going to be very crucial in this match. The Sydney Showground Stadium has been throwing up some slow pitches where the spinners have done well. With players like Stephen O’Keefe and Lloyd Pope in the squad, the Sydney Sixers have the spinners to try and take the maximum advantage of the situation.

Jackson Bird, Ben Dwrashius, Tom Curran, and Ben Manenti all help form a very strong bowling lineup.

The previous time these two sides met, we saw the Sydney Sixers bowling excel but the batting collapse in a heap and almost lose while chasing a small target. We don’t think the same thing will happen this time around and expect a much better performance from the Sydney Sixers batting.

Sydney Sixers Playing 11

Josh Philippe, J Avendano, Daniel Hughes, J Vince, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Tom Curran, B Dwarshuis, JM Bird, Nathan Michael Lyon, Steve O'Keefe.

Pitch and Conditions

A lot of rain has been predicted in Sydney on match day and we could see the match being washed out. The Sydney Sixers will be the team more affected since they would see a no-result as lost points and their lead cut down once again.

The pitch at the Sydney Showground Stadium is on the slower side and helps the spinners. We doubt we are going to get much a chance to see any action on it, though.

SYT vs SYD Betting Tips

We think the Sydney Sixers are the better match and would win quite easily if a full match was to be played out. In a shortened game, though, the teams become much closer together and anything can happen.

Bet on the Sydney Sixers to win.
