SYTW vs BHW Match Prediction - Nov 04, 2022

After losing two games in a row, perhaps the Brisbane Heat aren’t as invincible as we first thought. The Thunder aren’t the scariest opponent by any means, but they’ve shown heart in each game and also had some bad luck with several games cancelled.

The Heat are placed fourth on the ladder, while the Thunder are stuck in seventh. It was only a few weeks ago when the Heat defeated the Thunder, although that game was shortened due to rain interruption. Who will get the win today?

SYTW vs BHW Team Previews

Sydney Thunder Women

The Sydney Thunder have picked up just one win from the season, and that was a surprise victory against the Perth Scorchers. They’ve either lost every other game or had it cancelled due to poor weather.

Their most recent defeat came at the hands of the Sixers, which is no great shame considering they are at the top of the WBBL ladder and seemingly can’t be stopped.

Phoebe Litchfield is still the team’s top run scorer with 199, and she’s rapidly turning into the Thunder’s most reliable batter. She’s still young and can be dismissed with a few age-old tricks from savvy bowlers, but in time she could be one of the league’s stars.

Tammy Beaumont and Sammy-Jo Johnson have displayed flashes of brilliance this season, but it’s not consistent enough to turn into solid wins. The biggest help Litchfield can get is from captain Rachel Haynes so far, as at least she’s chipping in with great batting figures, including 37 against the Sixers. Some better choices could see her reach 50 in no time.

The good news for Thunder fans is that medium pace bowler Hannah Darlington is back from injury and in the squad again. She bowled 1/32 against the Sixers, and even if it’s nothing to shout about, having yet another capable bowler alongside spinner Lauren Smith (who took 2/22 in her last match) can only be a great thing.

Brisbane Heat Women

The Brisbane Heat have a 4-3 record at the moment, although those two straight losses are troublesome. However, these were against strong teams like the Scorchers and Strikers, so we can’t feel too worried.

Although it’s true that batter Georgia Redmayne is the top run scorer in the league with 225, a lot of that had to do with her 98* on October 18th. Since then, she’s posted scoring lows of 3, 4, and 5 runs. What we’d like to see is Redmayne stop swinging for the fences (which does work sometimes) and aim for solid scores of high 30s. She’s hurting her team by doing anything else.

Allrounder Amelia Kerr is promising for the Heat, as she’s posting solid scores of high 20s in nearly every match and also chipping in with a wicket or two. She’s rapidly becoming one of the most important players for the Heat.

You can’t feel too bad for the Heat, as they’ve got talented batters all through the order, including Voll, Harris, and Wyatt. On a good day when everyone is feeling the groove, the Heat are easily one of the best teams in the league. It’s actually surprising to see them so low on the ladder.

The bowlers are doing their job, as captain Jessica Jonassen (13 wickets) and Amelia Kerr (10 wickets) are holding high standards for everyone on the squad. We’d like to see more from Pooja Vastrakar, as she’s really yet to make a strong impact on any match and has taken only one wicket.

SYTW vs BHW Toss Prediction

The Heat have much better stats when batting first against the Thunder, so they’ll keep this up if they win the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The Blundstone Arena has good bounce and spin, but batters usually run the show here. Scores of 160 are pretty common in a T20 game, so expect a lot of boundaries.

SYTW vs BHW Betting Tips

The Heat aren’t as good as they started the season, but they’re still strong enough to take the win over the Thunder. The Heat are 9-6 against the Thunder, but the wins have been pretty back and forth in recent years.

If Redmayne and Kerr can keep a steady run flow and target a score of 160-170, then the Thunder won’t be able to withstand the strong bowling from the Heat.
