About the Match
One of the most highly awaited matches of the tournament, Titans versus the Cape Cobras, is about to be played in the tournament and it will feature a galaxy of star players on both sides. The fate of the two teams, however, could not be more different. The Titans have won three out of three and are looking easily the strongest team of the tournament while the Cape Cobras have lost their first two matches and are still looking for a win.
Can the Cape Cobras turn things around in this game?
The Titans showed that they could brush aside sides quite comfortably even in the absence of AB de Villiers. It is unclear if he will be available for the match against the Cape Cobras at the moment. This Titans team is far from a one trick pony and can call upon a bunch of different players to play the important roles.
Quinton de Kock continues to have a horror series as he registered another single digit score. His form would be becoming a matter of concern for the Titans and the South African selectors since there is a huge amount of international cricket coming up.
Aiden Markram in the middle order is currently in sublime form and has the most runs to his name. His ability clear the field as well as score runs without taking too many risks makes him a very difficult batsman to play against.
The real star of this team in our opinion has been Farhaan Behardien. He comes into bat at a difficult stage and has to start scoring almost immediately. He has scored 80 runs from two innings in the tournament at a strike rate of over 200.00 and has yet to be dismissed.
With Albie Morkel also back in excellent batting form, the Titans are a formidable batting unit with or without de Villiers.
The bowling is also similarly sharing the workload among a number of bowlers with Ngidi, Morkel, and Shamsi being the current standouts. Dale once again bowled three overs in this match and is slowly but surely returning to his best. We think it is only a matter of time before he unleashes the pace that makes him so dangerous.
After two losses from two games, things have not quite turned out the way the Cape Cobras would have imagined. They have one of the strongest teams on paper but as the old adage goes, cricket is not played on paper.
Hashim Amla has scored runs in both matches and is going to be the main threat in this match as well. His strike rate of 160 is impressive and he even has five sixes to his name already. If Amla can get some support from the others in the team, the Cobras could well spring a surprise in this match.
Richard Levi is not the most consistent of batsmen but seven runs from two games is a horrific start for a player of his standard. Temba Bavuma, JP Duminy, and even Wayne Parnell scored a few runs in the second game to raise hopes of the Cape Cobras finally hitting some form.
We think that Duminy is batting too low down the order and needs to come in at three so that he is able to make the most of the batting opportunities that crop up and not just end up trying to salvage a poor situation.
A team with so many internationals should not be struggling for runs in a domestic competition.
The biggest letdown for the Cape Cobras has been their bowling, the bowlers have only managed to take five wickets in the two matches and have given away plenty of runs. Almost every bowler in the team is going at more than 9.00 runs per over.
The attack boasts of Parnell, Philander, Paterson, and Duminy with maybe Kleinveldt also likely to get a game against the Titans. That’s an all international attack.
If they continue to miss their lines so regularly in the tournament then the South African coaches will really have their hands full this cricket season.
Pitch and Conditions
An excellent weather for cricket has been forecast currently. The day should be clear for the most part with some clouds around later in the day. The pitch at SuperSport Park is going to be excellent for batting and should allow for some massive scores to be hit.
The Titans with AB de Villiers would have been the clear favorites but it is not yet certain that he will play. Even without him though we think that the Titans will be able to pip the Cape Cobras for the win.
