About the Match
The Titans carried on with their winning momentum as they won emphatically against Knights by 3 wickets recently to accumulate 13 points; they are at the top of the table and will take on 4th place holders, Dolphins, in the next game at Bloemfontein on 20th November. The Dolphins also tasted success as they defeated Lions by a massive 49 runs, and will be eager to climb further up the ladder by winning the upcoming match.
Chasing 186, the top-order batsmen put up a good effort to build the innings patiently; Heinrich Klaasen scored 52 off 30 while Grant Mokoena, David Wiese and Farhaan Behardien kept the scoreboard ticking and steered the team across the finish line, well in time. Earlier, speedsters Albie Morkel and David Wiese took 2 wickets each but they found no answer to Miller’s heroics. Malusi Siboto also continued with his wicket-taking abilities, dismissing one opponent with his medium pace. The team has a well-balanced bowling attack with pacers and spinners but they would like to contain the opposition in the run-flow with a better-disciplined approach.
Against Cobras, they had to chase a target of 142 runs, which thanks to Heinrich’s well-made 46, and an all-round effort by Morkel and Behardien, they could do so with ease. Ngidi, Junior Dala, Wiese and Siboto combined well to take regular wickets, and fielding was also good. Klaasen is in good form with the bat and can stabilise the top-order; Behardien, Wiese, Morkel and others down the line can build steady partnerships in the middle, and pose a stiff total to the opponent here.
Overall, the team has been undefeated till now and can continue to experience success due to its strong batting performance and a well-rounded bowling unit.
The Dolphins batsmen were astounding against Lions, as players like Cameron Delport and Morne van Wyk came out with all their firepower to pile up the runs on the table, batting first. While Delport scored an unbeaten 93 from 62 balls, Morne finished with 60 off 37; the duo can be a tough unit to crack even in the upcoming match.
Setting 194 runs as the target, the batsmen did extremely well to challenge the opposition; the bowlers then dealt heavy blows as Delport showcased his all-rounder skills by taking a superb 4-17 in less than 4 overs. Shezi, Frylinck and Engelbrecht took 2 wickets apiece to leave the Lions in tatters, and wrap up a win by 49 runs.
In the match against Warriors, however, they were all stumped by the speedsters like Andrew Birch, getting all-out for a lowly 115 runs batting first; Morne, Cody Chetty and Frylinck tried to build the innings but with hardly any support from the top-order, they could muster only 115. Fast bowler Andile Phehlukwayo took 2-3 in a breath taking performance, and he can be a vital asset to the attack here. Spinner Imran Tahir also claimed a wicket but proved to be expensive; Delport and Shezi bowled economically and they bring depth to the squad.
The Titans have been invincible till now and they look well set to continue with their reputation this season; on the other hand, Dolphins who have won their recent game will be eager to register another victory. The contest could keep the fans on the edge of their seats, with the result swinging either way, but we feel that the Titans are better placed to emerge victorious on Sunday
