About the Match
Knights won their opening match against Cobras by 38 runs and they are placed 2nd on the table with 5 points; they will now play against Titans, who are positioned in the top place with 9 points, on 18th November. The Titans defeated Cobras recently by 6 wickets after restricting them to 141 and going on to chase it convincingly. The Knights, on the other hand, set a stiff challenge of 185 runs against Cobras, which the bowlers defended thanks to a coordinated team effort; both sides will be pumped up after their respective victories and will leave no stone unturned to win the upcoming match.
The bowlers combined well against Cobras to take regular wickets and restrict the opposition to 141 runs; Lungisani Ngidi and Junior Dala took 2 wickets each while Malusi Siboto and David Wiese claimed a wicket each to stifle the Cobras. Then, the batsmen ensured to keep the runs flowing and help them win the match easily. Heinrich Klaasen top-scored with 46 off 39 while all-rounder Albie Morkel posted a quick fire 34 from 16 deliveries to take the team safely home.
Farhaan Behardien is also a strong asset in the middle-order and he contributed well with 22 off 16; the batting line-up has players like Heino Kuhn, who is in tremendous form as seen from his brilliant 83 off 52 against the Lions in the first match, and he can come out with all the firepower again. Henry Davids and Qaasim Adams also bring their batting skills to the table and along with the others in the top-order they can try to stabilise the innings in the upcoming match.
In the game against Lions, the batsmen posted a hue total of 194 runs, which the bowlers defended ruthlessly thanks to Morkel’s superb 3-12 and others like Siboto and Ngidi taking 2 wickets apiece. Shaun von Berg is the lone spinner in the squad and he can add variety to the attack.
The Knights have played only one game till now and they did extremely well with bat and ball; Patrick Kruger posted a brilliant 74 off 49 to build a solid foundation batting first against Cobras while middle-order batsmen Diego Rosier and all-rounder Merchant de Lange kept the scoreboard ticking by contributing 20+ runs each. Rudi Second and Petrus van Biljon also played useful knocks, and add depth to the batting line-up along with David Miller and Dillon du Preez.
In the bowling department, they have speedsters Merchant de Lange, who took 3-17 to help stifle the Cobras, Kruger, Schalwyk and Zuma, who can outwit the opponents with their skills here. Spinner Tshepo Ntuli provides the spin option and if they can maintain a good discipline with the ball, then surely the Knights can dominate on the field.
Overall, they have experienced players as well as young local talent, who will be raring to go in the contest on Friday and help their team get to the top position.
There will be a tough fight between the top two teams in the league on Friday with each of them trying to strategize as the situation demands. While the contest could well go down to the wire, we feel that the Knights with a hard-hitting batting unit and an in-form bowling squad are likely to win
