About the Match
The CSA T20 Series, also popularly known as Ram Slam T20 Challenge, kick-started with an exciting game between Warriors and Knights, with the latter registering a comfortable victory by 8 wickets. Three-time title winners and reigning champions, Titans will take on Lions in the 3rd match of the series at Centurion on 12th November. The Lions had lost to Warriors last year in the qualifier game and will try to do better this year. Titans, on the other hand, have made it a habit to take home the prize and once again look to be a formidable force to reckon with this season. It needs to be seen which team can overcome challenges on the field and emerge victorious in their first match.
They won the title last year, defeating Warriors in a thrilling match by 6 runs, and have quite a strong team this year too to win again. Batting all-rounder Aiden Markram, who has recently done well in the tests against Bangladesh, will lead the side that consists of batsmen like Henry Davids, Farhaan Behardien, David Wiese, Albie Morkel, Chris Morris, wicket-keeper batsman Heino Kuhn and Heinrich Klaasen. They have a deep batting line-up that gives them the edge to set a strong total if batting first.
Pacers like Rowan Richards, Lungisani Ngidi, Malusi Siboto, Junior Dala, Qaasim Adams and spinner Shaun von Berg feature in the bowling department and showcase a good variety of options in the attack.
With a good number of all-rounders and a well-balanced mix of experience and young talent, the Titans surely can give the other teams a run for their money. They will take a cautious approach against the Lions' pacers and will try to set a solid foundation whether they get to set a target or chase one.
Stephen Cook, the top-order batsman, will captain the side which has players like Dominick Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Mangaliso Mosehle, Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius and Alviro Petersen, who have sufficient experience in this format of the game.
Aaron Phangiso brings good expertise to the team while pacer Kagiso Rabada has proven himself time and again in getting quick breakthroughs. Other bowlers like Hardus Viljoen and Nicholas van den Bergh bring variety to the attack and can be useful in crucial situations.
Having won the title twice but losing the race last year in the qualifier, the Lions are a motivated lot and they will leave no stone unturned to start the season on a winning note. They have good resources at hand and could upset the current champions in the very first game.
Both teams have a balanced mix of batsmen and bowlers, a good presence of all-rounders and the right mix of experience and young talent, which makes them equally placed to win this match. While the contest could go down to the wire, we feel that Titans with their deadly combination of pace and spin and better-equipped all-rounders are well placed to emerge victorious on Sunday.
