About the Match
The Titans have suffered two straight defeats in the recent games but continue to be at the top of the table with 24 points; they will face Lions, who are currently in the third position with 16 points, on 7th December at Centurion. When these two teams met previously, the Titans had registered an emphatic victory by 42 runs and they would like to make a comeback here with another good performance. The Lions, on the other hand, have won two matches back to back recently and would be eager to continue with the winning momentum; it needs to be seen which side succeeds in dominating the other and move further ahead in the standings.
Batting first against Warriors, players like Albie Morkel, David Wiese, Klaasen and Markram tried to build a good foundation but they could muster only 147 runs. Morkel and Shamsi bowled with precision, taking 3 wickets between them while all-rounders Wiese and Markram tried to slow down the opponents but they couldn’t stop them from hitting the winning runs.
In the game against Dolphins, Farhaan Behardien posted a brilliant 72 off 40 balls, partnering with Heino Kuhn and Albie Morkel to take the total to 170 batting first but the bowlers put up a lacklustre performance and gave away too many runs to end up in defeat by 6 wickets.
Heino Kuhn had posted a superb 83 from 52 in the earlier game against Lions; good contributions by Behardien, Morkel and Qaasim Adams helped them accumulate a massive 194 runs, which the bowlers led by Morkel’s 3-12 defended successfully. They have strong resources with bat and ball to win the upcoming match against Lions a second time.
Fast bowler Hardus Viljoen put up a terrific show as he claimed 3-16 against Warriors in the last game, thereby helping the team defend a modest 157 runs and win the match. He was well supported by spinners Eddie Leie and Bjorn Fortuin, who took 5 wickets between them and Pretorius, who took 2 wickets.
Opener Rassie van der Dussen scored a well-made half century from just 25 balls while Reeza Hendricks, Mosehle and other middle-order batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking. They have a deep batting line-up that can set stiff targets or chase one confidently.
They also won the recent match against Knights after setting 182 batting first and then defending it easily thanks to Fortuin’s superb 4-39; Matt McGillivray and Viljoen also took a wicket each and they bring variety to the attack. The two consecutive victories have surely boosted their morale and they can try to bring out all their firepower to avenge their previous defeat against Titans.
While the Titans rose to the top position with a flurry of wins in the beginning of the tournament, they have recently suffered losses that could hurt their momentum; the Lions, on the other hand, have picked up speed in climbing the ladder and are looking better placed to win on Wednesday
