TKR vs BR Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 08, 2018

The Trinbago Knight Riders extended their lead at the top of the table by winning their sixth match in eight games. Up against the impressive Guyana Amazon Warriors, the Trinbago Knight Riders showcased the difference in quality between them and every other team in the competition. The team still has two more games to play this season, a return fixture against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, and this game against the bottom-placed Barbados Tridents.

The Tridents are coming into this game with six consecutive losses weighing them down. Going up against the form team of the tournament cannot be an easy task. Can Barbados end with an upset to soothe their fans somewhat?

Trinbago Knight Riders

There is a gulf of more than 100 runs between Colin Munro and the next highest run-getter of the tournament. He scored 90 in the last win against the Guyana Amazon Warriors and has been consistently the driving force behind the Trinbago Knight Riders this season.

Two more games remain and now that the Knight Riders can afford to experiment a little, it was good to see them try to rectify the few issues they do have. For one, they move Sunil Narine down the order and allowed Munro to open the batting.

His partnership with the struggling Chris Lynn is a much more terrifying prospect than Sunil Narine walking out. It also allowed the Knight Riders to play Denesh Ramdin up the order. The former West Indian wicketkeeper has been doing pretty well in T20 cricket and scored 39 runs to demonstrate his value once more.

With a middle order of Brendon McCullum, Darren Bravo, and Dwayne Bravo to follow, the Knight Riders are full of plenty of firepower in their lineup. The cameos that these three have been playing help the Knight Riders reach scores which are well above the average for the ground and make it very difficult for chasing teams.

The same holds true when the Knight Riders are batting second. No team batting first against the Knight Riders is comfortable with the score they are getting and thus tend to try a bit too hard.

Fawad Ahmed and Sunil Narine have been brilliant for the Knight Riders this season. They have the variations, the control, and the guile to pick wickets while keeping runs down. Ali Khan has also been very good for the Knight Riders this season while there is no doubting the prowess of Dwayne Bravo with the ball either.

This means that the Trinbago Knight Riders are going to be a tough team to stop unless they have a very poor outing or come up against an exceptional individual performance.

Barbados Royals

Six losses in a row and the pain just seem to continue for the Barbados Tridents. They have put themselves in a few winning positions but continue to fail to convert them in every single game. The Barbados Tridents are going to finish last in this year’s competition and it is difficult to see them lift themselves up for this game.

That being said, the team is filled with professional players that are paid to give their best every single time. They have some extremely good players that are capable of playing a brilliant inning or bowling an excellent spell.

Martin Guptill has had one of his worst years in the CPL and will want to finish on a high. A good inning here can mean the difference between a gig next year or maybe being out of the competition altogether.

Hashim Amla, Steve Smith, Dwayne Smith, Shai Hope, and Nicolas Pooran are all batsmen that are in the same category. They need runs to cement their place in the side and in next year’s competition otherwise they could find the going tough.

We would love to see Smith back in the side and batting at number three, although, the Aussie has not done justice to his immense talent this time around. The Barbados Tridents are in freefall and they may look to experiment further to maybe hit upon something that works.

The bowling for the Tridents has been very tidy. Mohammad Irfan has been exceptional, Wahab Riaz and Ashley Nurse have been very effective as well, but the ends result of this campaign cannot have been to their liking.

Jason Holder has transformed into a very effective big hitter so maybe a role up the order for him could be good. As of now, his bowling in the shortest format of the game is not enough to justify his place in the side, much less as captain.

Perhaps, a new role for Holder moving forward would be one way in which the Barbados Tridents can look to revitalize its side.

Barbados Royals Playing 11

Sunny Sohal, Shamar Springer, Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Tion Webster, Jason Holder, Dominic Drakes, Imran Khan, Chemar K Holder, Mohammad Irfan.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast is pretty decent for match day. There is a 20% chance of rain but that decreases as the day goes on. The pitch in Port of Spain has been good for batting although it started to slow up in the last game too.

The average scores have been coming down all over the region and the same is expected here too. We think that a total of around 170 will be competitive.

TKR vs BR Betting Tips

The Trinbago Knight Riders have beaten the Barbados Tridents in four out of their last five matches. We think this dominance is going to continue in this game as well.
