All four places up for grabs in the Caribbean Premier League qualifiers have now been filled. The remaining group matches to be played now are going to help decide the ranks of the team within that top-4. The Guyana Amazon Warriors have locked up the top spot and so every other team is fighting for a possible second-place finish.
Considering the fact that the advantages offered to the top-2 finishing teams are exactly the same, this is a prize worth fighting for.
The Trinbago Knight Riders have nine points in their eight matches and need one win to ensure they finish second. The Barbados Tridents have eight points from nine matches and must win this match to give themselves any chance of finishing in second place.
Trinbago Knight Riders vs Barbados Tridents CPL 2019 is going to be played at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on the 2nd of October 2019.
A close-fought loss against the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the previous game showed the Trinbago Knight Riders that they are not going to boss this edition of the CPL like they did last season. The teams have improved markedly and the gap between them is no longer as big as it once was.
The Trinbago Knight Riders were chasing 186 in their match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors and fell 18 runs short. We cannot help but feel they are going to regret some of the batting order decisions they made (https://www.cricbuzz.com/live-cricket-scorecard/22693/tkr-vs-gaw-27th-match-caribbean-premier-league-2019).
Kieron Pollard has been in brilliant form but he came in to walk at number seven when the match was already pretty much beyond them. He ended up smashing 71 off just 38 deliveries and still could not win the match for his side. Since he is the captain of the side, he cannot blame anyone else either for batting so low in the order.
Darren Bravo also made a welcome return to form with 58 runs to his name while some other batsmen got a start. Colin Munro has been struggling in CPL 2019 and has not yet been able to replicate his exploits from past seasons.
With so much batting talent, the Trinbago Knight Riders are struggling how to best utilize it.
Chris Jordan was very expensive in the previous match while Kharry Pierre, Javon Searles, Ali Khan, and Kieron Pollard did a decent job.
Mark Deyal, LMP Simmons, Colin Munro, Denesh Ramdin, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard, James Neesham, J Searles, Chris Jordan, Khary Pierre, Ali Khan.
The Tridents qualified for the CPL 2019 playoffs after winning their previous match against the St. Lucia Zouks. We thought that the Tridents were bailed out by a brilliant bowling performance after their batsmen had wasted their opportunities.
Haydon Walsh followed up his five-wicket haul with four more to his name, Harry Gurney picked up three wickets, and Shakib Al Hasan bowled a tight line. The St. Lucia Zouks were bowled out for 117 and the Tridents escaped even though they had just 141 on the board (https://www.cricbuzz.com/live-cricket-scorecard/22692/bt-vs-stz-26th-match-caribbean-premier-league-2019).
It is going to be hard for the Barbados Tridents to actually go an win the title or even make the CPL 2019 final if it continues to bat like this. Alex Hales has not hit a big score as yet and surely the team must be losing patience with him. Jonathan Carter batted brilliantly at the top of the inning but has been pushed down to accommodate Hales at the top.
Johnson Charles scored 47 while Shakib Al Hasan, JP Duminy, and Justin Greaves got starts.
The lack of depth in the batting department is a real concern and could come back to haunt the Barbados Tridents. Especially against a side like the Trinbago Knight Riders that can go hard from the very first ball knowing it has enough batsmen in the shed whatever happens.
J Charles, AD Hales, Shakib Al Hasan, Jean-Paul Duminy, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder, Ashley Nurse, Justin Greaves, Raymon Reifer, Hayden Walsh, Harry Gurney.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. Three out of the four matches that have been played at this venue in CPL 2019 have been won by the team batting first.

The Queen’s Park Oval has been a good batting surface this season of the CPL and we don’t expect anything different for this match. The weather is also expected to be good on match day and we should be able to get a full match in without any trouble.
A score of about 180 can be considered par for the surface.
The odds of winning the match are 1.66 for TKR right now. We also think they should win but have chosen the best players from both sides to give the team a fair balance. The Barbados Tridents have the better quality all-rounders available while the TKR side has the better batsmen.
Winning the toss and batting first is a big advantage here but it is not as if the side batting second cannot win at all. The Trinbago Knight Riders have a much stronger batting lineup and also have a pretty decent bowling attack. Expect some changes in the playing eleven for both sides ahead of the knockout matches.
Bet on the Trinbago Knight Riders to win.
