About the Match
Having won two games in a row, Trinbago Knight Riders are at the top of the pack with 8 points; they will take on St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who have won all the three games they played till now and are at No. 2 with 6 points, on 14th August at Trinidad. Both teams have shown brilliance on the field and can put up a strong fight here on Monday; with the competition heated up in a matter of just over a week, we can expect all fireworks at Port of Spain cricket stadium with the Knight Riders playing to a home crowd.
Trinbago Knight Riders
Chasing 153 runs, Sunil Narine showed class with the bat as he posted a stupendous 79 off 45 against Barbados Tridents. The Bravo brothers contributed well to keep the scoreboard ticking and despite the loss of quick wickets, the Knight Riders successfully reached the target with 5 balls to spare. Earlier, Narine had proven to be the most economical of the bowlers, giving away just 17 runs on 4 overs; speedsters Dwayne Bravo and Ronsford Beaton took 2 wickets each while spinners Shadab Khan and Khary Pierre dismissed one opponent each to restrict the Tridents to 152 runs.
Spinner Shadab Khan has been consistently taking wickets and his 4-wicket haul against Amazon Warriors, stifled the opposition to 156 runs batting first. Sunil Narine also spun his magic, taking 2-16 while speedster Kevon Cooper dismissed one opponent. Colin Munro, who is in good form, posted an unbeaten 70 off 47 to steer the team towards victory while wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin contributed well with 42 off 23.
The Knight Riders have done well in all departments of the game, and can prove to be a formidable force to reckon with here, especially in their own backyard.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Batting first against St. Lucia Stars, Evin Lewis came out all guns blazing as he posted 92 off just 52 deliveries; he adds stability along with players like Carlos Brathwaite, Chris Gayle, Mohammad Hafeez, Devon Thomas and Mohammad Nabi. Hafeez failed to impress with the bat against St. Lucia Stars, however he made up for it with the ball as he claimed 3-22. Nabi also showed his spin skills as he took 3-15, and together with Hasan Ali and Tabraiz Shamsi, they restricted the opponents to 163, winning the match by a whopping 33 runs.
Against Amazon Warriors, Chris Gayle put up a brilliant 66 off 55 while Brandon King contributed with 39 off 35 before getting run-out. While the duo did well with the bat, others couldn’t fire and they ended with a lowly 132. However, the bowlers exhibited class and determination, providing regular breakthroughs with spin and pace to restrict the opponents and win the match by a close 4 runs.
The squad has spinners like Samuel Badree, Mohammad Hafeez and Mohammad Nabi, who bring their all-rounders skills to the table. Pacers include Sheldon Cottrell, Hasan Ali and Carlos Brathwaite, and they are all in good form to strategize well against Knight Riders too on Monday.
Both teams have done very well to stay ahead of the others till now and will put up a fierce fight. While Knight Riders have the home advantage, we feel that the Patriots, who have not yet lost a match, are better placed to continue with their winning momentum and shock the table-leaders with a win here.
