About the Match
Red Steel won against Patriots comfortably with 7 balls to spare and now have 5 points from 5 matches; they have the opportunity to climb up the ladder when they meet Zouks on 14th July at Queens Park. For the Zouks, who stand fourth on the table with 7 points, it is the penultimate match and are in a must win situation if they desire to qualify to the next level although. With pressure mounting on both teams, it’s surely going to be fireworks at the stadium, which the spectators will definitely enjoy.
Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel
Electing to field first against Patriots in the last match, they bowled well to restrict the opponent to just 146; DJ Bravo proving to be the main destroyer of the Patriots taking four wickets. Badree proved his capability with the ball by giving good support and taking two wickets. They unsettled the opponent by frequently creating a dent in the batting line-up and not allowing any sizeable partnerships, except for a brief spell when Thomas was at the crease.
However, in the match against Tallawahs, the entire batting line-up crumbled under pressure, giving up on the chase for 181 runs; Kallis’ well-made 46 went in vain as they lost the match by a massive margin of 50 runs.
They will need to repeat their recent winning performance and conquer the upcoming game to remain in the reckoning. Having good variety in attack, they might field first if the toss goes in their favour and restrict the opponent to an attainable target. They have the Bravo Duo who can turn the proceedings with bat and ball while Kallis is a seasoned all-rounder who can be very useful in all departments of the game.
St. Lucia Zouks
Zouks lost the match against Patriots, unable to control the game during the chase for 171 runs; they went from being comfortably placed to allowing the opponent to dominate them. The bowlers did well earlier, with McCullum taking 4-22 and others contributing with a wicket each; however, they continued with the habit of giving up and failing to capitalize on the favourable situations.
The pressure will be on them, as the opponent has more matches to play after this, and if they allow the situation to drift, they can very well write-off their chances from qualifying to the next level. As they are badly off even in the NRR.
With stalwarts like Kevin Pietersen, Fletcher and McCullum who have the capability to hit big shots and post good totals, which they have done quite often, their recent performances as a unit have been dismal. They have good resources with the ball too and Sammy needs to build the confidence among fellow bowlers to create breakthroughs as and when needed. It is a do or die situation for them and they will definitely go back to winning ways with an improved performance on the field.
With the pressure on Zouks, they might like to bat first and post a good total to improve their NRR and then dominate the game by disciplined bowling. Red Steel has had a mixed run so far and will be eager to come out all guns blazing; however, we feel that Zouks is better placed to win the match.
