About the Match
An entire nation’s prayers were answered when Mumbai stormed into the semi-finals with a thumping victory against Scorchers, giving them another chance to see their idol Sachin in the middle of T20 action. Once again they play in Delhi in second semifinal of CLT20 to be held on 5th October 2013 against Trinidad and Tobago. T&T players proved their mettle with a thrilling win over favourites CSK thus becoming the only foreign team to make it to final four. Both teams fought hard and spectators at Kotla ground were awestruck by the performances of Mumbai and T&T in close matches one after another. T&T with 12 points will give a tough fight to Mumbai with 10 points as the stage sets up for another exciting encounter where the crowds will be treated with competitive cricket yet again!
Clear strategy and a targeted focus kept MI in the running, achieving their target of 150 in just 13.2 overs against Scorchers as this was essential to overcome the threat from Otago which already had 10 points. Every player contributed to make sure the team NRR was better than Otago’s +0.869, thus making it safely to the semi-finals. Though the bowlers couldn’t restrict Scorchers to a lower score, bowlers like Ojha, Coulter-Nile and Dhawan ensured the target wasn’t humungous. Though Sachin failed to fire, opener Dwayne Smith with 48 runs and Rohit Sharma with an unbeaten 51 off 24 balls gave the required boost to the chase. Pollard and Rayudu gave required support to the captain and helped him take the team home safely. It was a commendable team effort and Mumbai Indians are sure to keep surging ahead.
Trinidad and Tobago:
T&T made a huge comeback, toppling CSK and taking everyone by surprise with their famed heroics. Facing elimination being tied at 8 points with Titans, this was a crucial match for the team and they excelled in all departments of the game, reaching the target of 119 in 15.1 overs. Ramdin and his dedicated team, especially Rampaul and Emrit claiming crucial CSK wickets and an all-round performance by Simmons with his 63 runs and 2 wickets, ensured that the NRR did not come down and finished the match on a high with support from Lewis and Bravo. This match will be tougher as the expectations from the team have risen and the players need to hold their nerves in pressure situations once again. Riding high on morale, T&T warriors are ready to take on Mumbai on 5th.
Both the teams excelled in pressure situations, overcoming threats of elimination with exhilarating performances and superior team spirit. It will be an evenly matched contest between the speedsters from T&T and the hard-hitters from Mumbai Indians. The West-Indies side will pose serious challenges to MI with their disguised spins whereas Mumbai batsmen will be difficult to contain. Though T&T is a tough team to beat and Mumbai is motivated to see off Sachin with a grand win at the finals. T&T under the mentorship of Lara is looking relentless. Considering their spin attack and the way they toppled Chennai, I’d place my money on them.
