TSC vs NSW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Nov 17, 2022
It’s time for the Marsh Cup again, as NSW take on Tasmania in this thrilling ODI cricket format.
Tasmania might look far better than NSW, as New South Wales is winless in three games and struggling to put any real form together. However, Tassie has lost their last two games and is 2-2 overall. Therefore, this really could be any state’s game to win.
TSC vs NSW Team Previews
Tasmania
Tasmania did pick up two nice victories against SA and Queensland, but dropped the next two versus Victoria and a South Australia rematch. A team that was invincible is now looking very human again.
There’s still a lot to fear for NSW when it comes to Tasmania’s squad, as batters Caleb Jewell and Ben McDermott are some of the most lethal in Aussie state cricket. McDermott, especially, routinely hits big scores and currently has knocked up 432 runs with a solid batting average of 48.00.
However, the optimism for NSW is the recent form of McDermott and Jewell in the Marsh Cup. Both have been great in the Sheffield Shield lately, but for whatever reason, have hit very low scores in the ODI games. Jewell’s last two games have totalled 21 runs, while McDermott has reached only 16 in his previous two.
NSW will have to watch out for batter Jake Doran, as he has hit consecutive centuries in the Marsh Cup (104 and 105*), which is impressive work even if these came in losses. If the NSW bowlers can dispatch Doran for less than 20 runs and McDermott and Jewell have bad games again, then there’s a good chance for victory.
Bowler Peter Siddle is easily Tasmania’s best bowler, but he’s been less effective in ODI games and he’s 37 years old now, so it could be that age is catching up with him.
Tasmania Playing 11
McDermott, Webster, Ellis, Jewell, Doran, Silk, Wade, Siddle, Meredith, Thomas Rogers, Andrews.
New South Wales
If NSW has a possibility to win, it will be likely down to batter Daniel Hughes. He’s simply batting exceptionally well at the moment and is averaging 57.90 in the Marsh Cup. He picked up a whopping 139 runs against South Australia, so there’s hope he can continue this stunning form.
If Hughes has decent help from Moises Henriques and Kurtis Patterson, who have both been batting solid (but not spectacular) lately, then NSW should have enough firepower to reach a decent target of at least 250.
The bowling will all be on the shoulders of pacer Liam Hatcher and allrounder Sean Abbott, as they have been versatile and crafty lately. They’ll need to do better than one or two wickets to dethrone a tough squad like Tasmania, but it’s certainly possible.
New South Wales Playing 11
Baxter J Holt, Kerr, Chris Green, Tremain, Hughes, Sams, Sangha, Patterson, Hatcher, Gilkes, Henriques.

Pitch and Conditions
The pitch suits bowlers well at the start of the match, but later seems to favour batters with a bit less bounce.
TSC vs NSW Betting Tips
Tasmania does have a better record than NSW, but they haven’t played brilliantly lately in the Marsh Cup and the star players are looking somewhat worn out. NSW has players like Hatcher and Hughes to have a fantastic game and give their state the first win of the season. There is hope for NSW as they did defeat Tasmania in an ODI format back in 2021.
Bet on New South Wales to win.
