TSC vs WAC Match Prediction - Feb 26, 2023

It has not been the greatest cricket season for Tasmania, as the southern Oz state were not only destroyed by Western Australia by 383 runs in the Sheffield Shield, but remains unlikely to reach the Finals in the Marsh Cup.

Tasmania is fifth on the ladder with a 2-4 record and is reeling with four straight losses. There’s little to play for except pride right now, as they won’t be able to get into the top four on the ladder. WA, on the other hand, is absolutely crushing everyone with a 6-0 record and looks unbeatable at the moment.

Keep track of all the Marsh Cup scores and odds here.

TSC vs WAC Team Previews

Tasmania

Tasmania just can’t get things together as none of their top-order batters is having a solid season. Silk, McDermott, Jewell, and Doran have all been struggling lately and no one has been helping much in the Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield. Not a single batsman hit over 35 runs in the recent Marsh Cup loss to NSW.

The bowling is going to be improved with Tom Rogers back in the side, as he was fantastic in the BBL and also took 4/62 in the NSW defeat. Ellis has been helpful at times, but there’s not enough assistance from Meredith or Bird.

Tasmania Playing 11

Ben McDermott, BJ Webster, Iain Carlisle, Mac Wright, Mitchell Owen, Nathan Ellis, Caleb Jewell, Jake Doran, Jordan Silk, Thomas Rogers, Tom Andrews.

Western Australia

Despite a few small changes to the WA squad for this matchup, there’s no reason to think that they won’t be as lethal as ever. Corey Rocchiccioli, Charlie Stobo, Joel Paris, and Marcus Stoinis will all take a break, while there’s the inclusion of Ashton Agar, Matt Kelly, Mitchell Marsh, and David Moody.

Agar and Marsh are big news, especially as Agar spent some time in the national side against India, and Marsh is coming off an injury that has kept him out for some time.

WA has just so many talented batters capable of hitting big scores, and has three batsmen in the top 10 for total runs made in the Marsh Cup, including Philippe (351 and 70.20 average), Short (250 and 41.66 average), and Bancroft (235 and 78.33 average). Then you’ve also got Hardie, Inglis, Turner, and the return of Marsh! It’s almost unfair.

For bowling, Agar’s return helps complement a side already with great bowlers like Behrendorff and Kelly. Behrendorff, in particular, has been one of the most effective players for WA with 10 wickets and a 23.80 bowling average. Any of these three can be dangerous for Tasmania.

Western Australia Playing 11

Ashton Agar, Ashton Turner, Cameron Bancroft, Cameron Gannon, D'Arcy Short, David Moody, Hilton Cartwright, Josh Inglis, Jason Behrendorff, Josh Philippe, Mitchell Marsh.

Pitch and Conditions

Unfortunately, some rain is predicted for match day, which Tasmania is probably happy about, but hopefully it clears and we see some cricket action. The Blundstone Arena pitch helps bowlers early on, but the second innings is great for batters once things start to slow down.

TSC vs WAC Betting Tips

It’s clear that WA is the favourite here, and it’s a shame that the Betway odds aren’t particularly exciting for them. Tasmania’s odds to win are very generous, but we really can’t trust them to get a victory over a tough side like WA. It’s not too interesting, but if you really want to bet, then choose WA here.
