The semi-finals of the Momentum ODI Cup 2019 are upon us and we have the Titans taking on the Cape Cobras in the first match. The points table at the end of the group stages shows that there was quite little to choose between the teams in the competition. The Titans may have topped the Momentum ODI Cup 2019 Group stage with six wins out of its ten matches but the Cape Cobras were not far behind either with five wins from their ten.
The Titans and the Cape Cobras are now going to face other in the first semi-final at SuperSport Park, Centurion for what should be an exciting game to look forward to.
It is not often that a player scored `183 in a fifty over match and still ends up on the losing side. Theunis de Bruyn made 183 runs from just 142 balls and led his side to a total of 323. No one apart from de Bruyn was able to take advantage of some excellent batting conditions in the Titans side and that is going to be a concern heading into the semi-final.
Players like Dean Elgar, Tony Zorzi, and Jonathan Vandiar will need to ensure that they are at their best against a dangerous Cape Cobras team. We fail to understand why a batsman of the caliber of Farhaan Behardien is batting at number 7 in a South African domestic competition. It was not too far back that Nehardien was an automatic pick in the South African national side and we would have loved to see him take some more responsibility in this tournament.
The bowling lineup of Marcello Piedt, Corbin Bosch, Tshepo Moreki, and some other domestic players is appearing a bit weak to us. There are some season domestic performers mixed in with some experienced ones but as a whole, the bowling attack is lacking top-notch quality.
The Titans may have topped the group stages but they must be wary heading into the semi-final.
Dean Elgar, Tony de Zorzi, Theunis de Bruyn, JD Vandiar, Aiden Markram, Farhaan Behardien, Corbin Bosch, Sizwe Masondo, DW Steyn, Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi.
A comprehensive loss for the Cape Cobras against the Warriors was not the best way in which they could have prepared themselves for the upcoming semi-final. That loss has meant that the Cape Cobras will be playing against the Titans instead of the Dolphins in the knockout match.
We don’t think the Cape Cobras are going to be too unhappy about that.
The Cape Cobras have some very decent batsmen in their lineups like Janneman Malan, Pieter Malan, and Zubayr Hamza. All three of them are rated as among the best domestic players in South Africa currently and they would love to play a big inning when it matters the most.
Even batsmen like Kyle Verreynne and Dayyan Galiem have been in the runs to give the batting a pretty sturdy look.
The real strength of the Cape Cobras is their bowling attack, though.
They have experienced bowlers like Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Piedt, and a couple of promising youngsters to lead their attack. This is invaluable and should help them stay in the game no matter what the conditions.
We are looking at Rory Kleinveldt to be the biggest performer for the Cape Cobras in this match.
Janneman Malan, Pieter Malan, Zubayr Hamza, Jean-Paul Duminy, Kyle Verreynne, Aviwe Mgijima, VD Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Dane Paterson, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Akhona Mnyaka.
The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat first

The first semi-final of the Momentum ODI Cup 2019 between the Titans and the Cape Cobras is going to be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The weather forecast for the Centurion is excellent. We should have a full match in without any rain interruptions, something which has plagued this tournament so far.
The pitch at the Centurion is expected to be excellent for batting and we should have another match where 300 is the par-total.
We think this is an excellent opportunity for the Cape Cobras to pull off an upset in this semi-final and progress to the finals. Both teams have an equally strong batting lineup but the bowling unit of the Cape Cobras is far superior.
Back the Cape Cobras to win.
