After a long tussle and hard-work lasting for over fifty days and thirty matches, we finally have our two finalists in the ongoing Momentum One Day Cup. Coincidentally, the teams that finished at the top two spots in the league table, Titans and Dolphins, won their respective semifinals, against Cape Cobras and Warriors respectively, are locking horns in the grand finale of the tournament which is going to be played for the last time. The two teams will lock horns at Supersport Park, Centurion. If the performance of the two teams in the league stage is anything to go by, the final of the tournament is all set to have a fitting finish and we expect a cracker of a contest.
Just like the Dolphins - Warriors clash, the first semifinal between the Titans and the Cobras happened to be low scoring. Barring a brief spell during the chase, the Titans looked dominant all throughout the chase as they cruised through the chase.
Dale Steyn and Junior Dala proved Skipper's decision to bowl first right as they both got the new ball to talk in the opening spell. Dale Steyn dismissed Janneman Malan and Zubayr Hamza on the very first deliveries of the match and left Cobras reeling at naught for two. Junior Dala then further damaged the Cobras' plans he picked up three more wickets and pushed Cobras into a pit. Vernon Philander and Kyle Verreynne led Cobras' brief repair work before Dala wrapped up the tail to record his career-best figures of 6 for 19.
Chasing a modest total, all Titans needed to do was to not lose a wicket early and they failed to do just that. They lost two wickets for just 14 runs and then further slipped to 65 for 5. Farhan Behardien then combined with Corbin Bosch who together stitched a 123-run match-winning partnership. The Titans eventually won the match with five wickets in hand and more than 10 overs to spare, thanks to the brilliant 92-ball 75 run knock by Farhan Behardien.
Theunis de Bruyn, Tony de Zorzi, JD Vandiar, Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar, Farhaan Behardien, Sizwe Masondo, Matthew Arnold, DW Steyn, Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi.
Dolphins stormed to the final with a clinical 7-wicket win over Warriors in the second semifinal a couple of days ago. Considering the fact that they were coming from a rather inconsistent run in the second half of the league stage, it was a welcoming win. With the aim of retaining the Momentum ODI cup, which they shared with the Warriors last year, the Dolphins are expected to strive hard against the Titans and will be under immense pressure.
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, their new ball bowlers didn't disappoint. Daryn Dupavillon and Eathan Bosch combined well with the new ball as the former kept things tight and the latter rocked Warriors with a couple of wickets. Just when the Warriors looked settled after early losses, Keshav Maharaj ran through their middle order. The Warriors were eventually bundled out for 119 which was never going to be enough to defend.
The opening start provided by Vaughn van Jaarslveld and Sarel Erwee further eased the job ab hand as the duo added 69 runs before Jaarslveld departed after scoring a well made half-century. Dolphins eventually overhauled the total for the loss of three wickets and more than 30 overs to spare, without any difficulty whatsoever.
VBV Jaarsveld, Sarel Erwee, Senuran Muthusamy, DJ Vilas, Khaya Zondo, Andile Phehlukwayo, Sibonelo Makhanya, K Maharaj, Eathan Bosch, P Subrayen, D Dupavillon.
Considering how well Markram played in the league stages and then against Sri Lanka, leaving him out will only be foolish. In the small number of games he played, he scored more than 300 points which speak volumes about his consistency and impact. Alongside him, Farhan Behardien, Vaughn van Jaarslveld are certain picks for the batting lineup. Andile Phehklukwayo has been in tremendous form right from the beginning and takes one of the two spots in the all-rounders' department. Dala is expected to do well after a terrific performance in the last match and along with Keshav Maharaj and Tshepo Moreki, he is our pick to be in the bowling lineup.

Considering how things fared during the league stage, it is going to be a nail-biting encounter. While the Titans were easily the best side in the league stage, they failed to push aside Dolphins on both the occasions. The Dolphins, on the other hand, were brilliant in the first half of the league stage but lost momentum in the second half. However, they showed signs of brilliance in their last league match and the recently concluded second semifinal.
