The group fixtures of the CSA T20 Challenge are about to be played out and we still have a lot to play for. The Titans will be taking on the Lions in this match as the two sides try and fulfill different objectives. The Titans are in fourth place on the league table but within grasp of the Dolphins just three points behind them.
The Titans need to win this match to ensure they are a part of the knockout stages of the tournament.
The Lions are sitting at the top of the league table and are already guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. They are, however, just one point in front of the Cape Cobras. Retaining their first position and getting an easy draw in the semi-final is a big motivation for the Lions.
The CSA T20 Challenge match between the Titans and the Lions is going to be played at the SuperSport Park, Centurion.
The Titans come into this match with the prospect of a place in the knockout stages very much a possibility. In fact, the Titans could also end up finishing second if a few results go their way. They will, however, need to be better than they were in the previous game against the Knights.
The Knights have been woeful this competition and are still without a single win but the Titans nearly stumbled against them.
Set a modest target of 149 to win, the Titans were reduced to 15 for three. It took some enterprising innings from Henry Davids, Theunis de Bruyn, and Farhaan Behardien for the Titans to get over the line. Such mistakes and lapses may not allow them a chance of a comeback against the Lions.
We thought it was a mistake to change up the batting order for the Titans. Henry Davids has been brilliant in the opening position for quite some time now and he should have been allowed to keep that spot as the end of the tournament nears.
We definitely think that the Titans have the batting to compete against the Lions but they need to make better use of their resources. Of course, it not just about scoring runs. The Titans bowling attack will be aware that it is going to be taking on the strongest batting lineup in the competition and that there is no margin for error.
The likes of Junior Dala, Tshepo Moreki, Shaun von Berg and the others were quite disciplined in the last match against the Knights. They were also not really put under the kind of pressure that they are going to be in this match.
Junior Dala is the one bowler we are looking at to make an impact in this game.
Tony de Zorzi, JD Vandiar, Rubin Hermann, Farhaan Behardien, GM Thomson, Matthew Arnold, Shaun von Berg, DS Rosier, Gregory Mahlokwana, Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi.
The Lions brushed past a strong Cape Cobras side in the previous match and took the top-spot I the CSA T20 Challenge competition. Now, it looks like the Lions are going to need to win to ensure they remain at that spot after the end of the group stages.
There is no question in our mind that the Lions start as easy favorites for this match. They have a fantastic batting unit led by Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen. Both these players have been in excellent form and are scoring runs.
They are also making a point about their place in the national setup. We are backing them to continue playing in the same vein over the next few matches as well.
Of course, the strength of the Lions comes from the depth in its batting. Temba Bavuma, Dwaine Pretorius, Ryan Rickelton, and Wiaan Mulder are also very exciting players. On a head to head basis, the Lions certainly have more muscle than the Titans when it comes to the batting.
The Lions bowling is pretty good but not that much better than the Titans.
Bjorn Fortuin, Nono Pongolo, and Wiaan Mulder lead the bowling attack with a lot of heart. They are not, however, a feared bowling attack by a long shot. T20 is all about one good inning and the Lions have to wary from one big inning from the match-winners in the Titans batting.
That is perhaps the biggest risk that they face in this match.
Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, RVD Dussen, PWA Mulder, Dwaine Pretorius, Nono Pongolo, Bjorn Fortuin, Aaron Phangiso, Migael Pretorius, Lizaad Williams.
The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat second. Most teams prefer chasing in T20 cricket and the pitch also seems to be a bit better for batting in the second inning at Centurion.

The CSA T20 Challenge match between the Titans and the Lions is going to be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion. The weather seems to have improved across South Africa and the current prediction is for sunny skies on match day. We should get a full, uninterrupted contest as it should be for a crucial match like this.
The batting conditions at SuperSport Park are quite good. The pitch is a little slower than some of the others in South Africa but the balance will still be heavily in favor of the batsmen.
Both teams have a lot to play for in this match and there is no chance of any complacency creeping in. There are match winners on both sides but the current batting strength of the Lions is difficult to look past. It will take something special for the Titans to win this one.
Back the Lions to win.
