About the Match

The champions of the last edition of the Karnataka Premier League, the Bellary Tuskers will be in action against Namma Shivamogga, a team that has made some smart buys in the auction and could be one of the dark horses for the title this year. Getting off to a good start in the tournament is important and that is exactly what the teams will be looking to do this year as well.

Match Preview

Bellary Tuskers

One of the chief reasons that Bellary won the KPL last year was the performance of Amit Verma in that tournament. He took 12 wickets in the tournament, the third highest for the tournament, and gave away runs at only 6.90 per over. He gave the Bellary Tuskers a wicket taking option as well as a run saving one at any stage of the game. Amit Verma also scored a useful 151 runs with 8 sixes to his name in the tournament. The Tuskers also managed to retain their other bowling star from last year in Prateek Jain. His 9 wickets last year came at an economy rate of 8.42 which is a little high but indicative of the tough times of the innings in which he bowled. The batting responsibilities will be headed by Rohan Kadam who made 304 runs in the tournament last year and KB Pawan who scored 221 runs with the help of 11 sixes. The Tuskers have taken the approach of several T20 teams around the world and in the IPL by trying to keep a stable core together. All of their top players were with the squad last year as well and that will allow them to build on the successes of the previous year. We have no doubt that the champions from last year are going to be a handful this time around as well.

Namma Shivamogga

Shivamogga had a poor last season as they could only manage three wins from their seven matches. A couple of close games and some tight calls did not go their way which made things difficult for them but they would no doubt want to improve this year. They managed to make some excellent buys at the auction this year and ended up with what we think is a strong team. Their most expensive buy in the auction was Anirudha Joshi who scored 153 runs in 6 innings last year. It was his penchant for big hitting though as his 11 sixes showed and the temperament to finish off games that caught the eye of everyone watching. The highly rated Jonathan R is also known to be able to get the big hits with ease thus giving plenty of firepower to Namma Shivamogga. Paredeep T had a good season with the ball picking up 7 wickets in the tournament at an excellent economy rate of 6.71. There is no big national name player in this side by other solid performers like Abrar Kazi, Sarfaraz Ashraf, Shoaib Manager and GS Chiranjeevi provide excellent balance to the side. Plenty of T20 experience and nous makes this team a serious threat for all oppositions.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at Mysore was a very good one for batting in the last match and the same is expected for this one. The weather though may spoilsport as there is a very high percentage of rain interrupting the match.
