About the Match
With a win for Lyca Kovai Kings in the last game, the tournament is still open with the fourth slot up of grabs. TUTI Patriots lead the points table and have a confirmed ticket for playoffs. Madurai Super Giants, on the other hand, are yet to win a match after having played six games. The two team lock horns on 13th August 2017 at College Ground, Dindigul. While the match will have no impact on the teams that qualify for the playoffs, it could be crucial in deciding the fixtures. A win for both the still carry the same importance but for different reasons. For Patriots, it is the matter of staying at the top and meeting the team at the fourth spot in the points table whereas Super Giants will be looking to redeem themselves and salvage some pride.
We are seeing the repeat of previous year's repeat as far as performance of this side goes. The Patriots were brilliant last year and they went on to win the title and the story appears to be no different.
As they've been doing from 11 matches, they registered an emphatic victory over the Veerans. Their bowlers did well to restrict them to a total of which was sub par on a good batting track. Their batsmen then marched past the target with relative ease with 5 balls to spare. Kaushik Gandhi has been in incredible form right from the beginning of the tournament. Washington Sundar gained a lot in IPL and that is reflecting in this year's campaign.
Dinesh Karthik is an important pillar in the middle order who provides stability as well as the impetus to the innings. With a solid top-order and fine set of bowlers, TUTI Patriots emerged title winners in the last edition and it won't be surprising if they go unbeaten to the finals again.
Madurai Super Giants
Madurai Super Giants have had a tournament exactly opposite to what they'd have hoped for. They've played six games and the only point garnered by them has come due to the virtue of a No Result. They came close to a win against the Veerans where they batted well to score 145 in 14 Overs and almost defended it.
Their last match, against Lyca Kovai Kings, was washed out due to rain and hence got the only point they have in their kitty. Against Veerans, skipper Arun Kartik played superbly with able support from a couple of batsmen. Bowlers began well with two quick wickets, but excellent middle order batting from Baba Aparajith took the game away from them.
Overall, Madurai Super Giants have a good team which has been on the wrong side of luck too often. Apparently, they are too dependent on Arun Kartik's performance and if others can chip in to support him, Super Giants can certainly challenge the Patriots.
Super Giants campaign in the tournament so far has been dismal and they'd have to gear up their performance significantly here. While 'nothing to lose' scenario can improve their performance, TUTI Patriots are in superb form and are more likely to win this match as well.
