It is still early days in the Mzansi Super League and positions on the table do not matter too much. Both the teams taking part in this match, the Tshwane Spartans and the Jozi Stars, have won just one match in the tournament so far. Every win will see the table positions changing and so concentrating on getting the balance of the team right is more important.
With three losses from four games, the Tshwane Spartans have certainly a lot of things to improve upon. These results become even more damning when you consider that most of the first choice players for the Spartans were available from the very beginning of the tournament.
The Jozi Stars have one win from three matches and they too need to find the best possible combination to get into the thick of things. This is an important match for both teams to try and break their losing spree.
We thought that the Tshwane Spartans were quite unlucky to lose the last match against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in a rain-affected encounter. The wicket of AB de Villiers on the last ball before the rain became too heavy to continue made the DLS par score more than what the Spartans had achieved at that point.
Still, such things happen in sport and the side will be better for the experience.
The Tshwane Spartans are shaping up pretty nicely irrespective of their current position on the table. We believe that this side is going to be underpriced by the market in the upcoming days and provides an opportunity to make some money.
The batting looks in good hands with Cloete scoring consistently at the top and some renowned players like Theunis de Bruyn, AB de Villiers, Dean Elgar, and Stuart Williams to follow.
Cloete has 145 runs to his name already and is currently second in the Mzansi Super League run scorer’s chart. We are not too sure how long de Zorzi will continue to get a run at the top because someone line Elgar or even de Villiers might be more effective.
Speaking of AB de Villiers, all eyes are on the batting great whenever he is in the side. We believe that he is in good batting form but his captaincy tends to confound sometimes. It is almost as if someone needs to tell de Villiers to do things simple in the field. He needs to bat at a position where he can bat for the longest and set standard fields for his bowlers. That will win the Spartans more matches than not alone.
The problem for AB and the Spartans has been the side’s bowling. The fast bowling resources are weak when compared to the other sides and the death bowling has been a bit scratchy too. Robbie Frylinck has a good reputation when it comes to death bowling but we have not seen anything special up until now.
The only bowler that has been bowling well and keeping them in the contest has been Jeevan Mendis. He took four in the last match again and showed what a canny pick he has been for the Tshwane Spartans this season.
Gihahn Cloete, Tony de Zorzi, Theunis de Bruyn, AB de Villiers, Dean Elgar, Robbie Frylinck, BMAJ Mendis, Sean Williams, Lutho Sipamla, Eldred Hawken, Corbin Bosch.
The Jozi Stars came up against a marauding Quinton de Kock and never recovered from that onslaught at all. It was a little ironic that the Jozi Stars put in their worst batting performance after the return of Kagiso Rabada, who is without doubt one of the best fast bowlers in the world right now.
Rabada will be itching to get back into the middle and get a better return for his efforts. He will know that the Tshwane Spartans are a little suspect in the batting and this could be a good opportunity for him to make amends for the last match.
Kagiso Rabada will join Duanne Oliver, Beuran Hendricks, Eddie Leie, Dan Christian, and Simon Harmer in what is an excellent bowling attack. It will take another exceptional inning from someone in the Tshwane Spartans camp to get enough runs to win against this attack.
We would recommend picking Rabada or Beuran Hendricks as the highest wicket-takers in this side.
The batting for the Jozi Stars failed while chasing a stiff target as Nortje and Steyn ripped through the top order. The players can take some respite in the fact that the Tshwane Spartans do not have the same kind of fire up front and so they should have an easier time setting up.
Reeza Hendricks and Rickelton are going to be two batsmen that have to play the leading roles in this side. There are some other very good batsmen also like van der Dussen, Vilas, Biljon, and Christian but runs from the top order are essential.
The power-hitting potential in this side is also pretty high because of the presence of Dan Christian in the order. He can be used a floater and sent in at different times according to the situation.
Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, RVD Dussen, DJ Vilas, PJ van Biljon, DT Christian, SR Harmer, Kagiso Rabada, Dwaine Pretorius, B Hendricks, Eddie Leie.
The side winning the toss is expected to bat first

The weather forecast for Centurion is excellent at the moment. No rain has been forecast on match day and it looks like we should have an uninterrupted game. The pitch at SuperSport Park is excellent for batting and we expect the same for this contest as well.
A high scoring game where 170 is the par score can be expected.
The Tshwane Spartans have some very dangerous players in its side but lack the overall strength of the Jozi Stars. Individual brilliance is going to win the Tshwane Spartans matches while a the Jozi Stars seem more capable of a collective team effort.
Back the Jozi Stars to win.
