Both teams have a tough road ahead of them if they have to make it to the main draw and winning this match will be crucial. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that the team that loses this match has effectively sealed its fate and has no chance of qualifying further.

UAE vs NL Team Previews

United Arab Emirates

The UAE has been drawn in the easier of the two groups for Round 1 of the T20 World Cup. It goes into this match as the underdog despite haveing a great record against the Netherlands in T20 cricket recently. The reason for this is simple. Players from the UAE have not played in Australia and the conditions here are very different from where they have had their success.

The three batters that the UAE will be banking on to make the bulk of their runs are Chirag Suri, Vriitya Aravind, and Muhammad Waseem. The captain, C Rizwan, is also a decent batter but he has played only four T20 matches in the last three years for the UAE.

The lack of batting depth is a concern. Also, we don't really see any power hitters in this lineup.

Junaid Siddique, Karthik Meiyappan, and Zahoor Khan are the three bowlers that have had the most success for the UAE in the leadup to the T20 World Cup. We don't see any one of them really making a big mark on the tournament, though.

Netherlands

The Netherlands will be quietly confident of locking up the second place in this group and moving on to round 2. The biggest competition is going to be Namibia and this match against UAE is one that is expected to win. The presence of some decent fast bowlers and batters that enjoy the bounce are big advantages for the Netherlands.

Max O'Dowd, Bas de Leede, and Tom Cooper have scored the most runs for the Netherlands in the previous three years. Tom Cooper has played a lot of BBL cricket and that experience could come in very handy as well.

There is more depth in the batting lineup than the UAE for sure.

Fred Klaassen with his left-arm pace bowling will test the UAE batters. He has the most wickets in the previous three years for the Netherlands. He will be supported by Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek, both of whom are the next most prolific wicket-takers after Klaassen.
