After a long two-months break, ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 resumes with a three-nation series between USA, UAE, and Scotland. The hosts UAE are set to lock horns with USA in the first match of the series on 8th December at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Barring Papua New Guinea, all the teams have done similarly in the tournament so far and are separated only on the basis of net run-rate. This series may well turn out to be the one where one team run ahead of the rest. However, there isn't much to separate the three sides and we expect a cracker of a contest to start off the proceedings in the series.
UAE are the only side that is yet to feature in the tournament. While four other sides have played four matches each, PNG have eight games to their name, UAE are set to commence their campaign with the next match.
UAE's most recent encounter was a T20I game wherein they were swept away by Scotland. George Munsey thrashed UAE's bowlers all around the park as UAE failed to come even remotely close to the towering total of Scotland.
Prior to that, however, UAE registed good couple of wins, against and Canada and Nigeria, but lost to Netherlands. Over the past few matches, the likes of Shaiman Anwar, Chundangapoyil Rizwan, and Mohammad Rizwan have done well for them with the bat and those three will hold key for UAE's fortunes in the upcoming contest.
UAE's bowling is pretty well set as well with Amir Hayat being in prime form. Hayat has played just three matches in the past one year and has six wickets to his name. Besides him, Imran Haider and Mohammad Naveed will shoulder the bowling load for United Arab Emirates in the upcoming series.
Chirag Suri, Vritiya Aravind, Darius D'Silva, Basil Hameed, Muhammad Usman, Rohan Mustafa, Waheed Ahmed, Ahmed Raza, Karthik Meiyappan, Junaid Siddique, Zahoor Khan.
USA isn't a well-known name in the world of cricket, but in a series involing Scotland and Oman, they seem to be doing pretty well. In the points table, they are currently placed third in the points table with just Namibia and Scotland ahead of them and that too on the net run-rate.
USA have played four matches so far and have won three of them. They are coming into the upcoming fixture on the back of three back to back wins - over Namibia, Papua New Guinea, and Namibia, in the same order. Considering how they did in their recent matches, they'd be a confident unit heading into their match against UAE and shouldn't be taken lightly.
The selectors have gone with an almost unchanged squad for the upcoming series. A couple of notable omissions are those of Jessy Singh and Sagar Patel, who both struggled to maintain consistency with their performances. To replace them, the selectors have included Ian Holland and Cameron Stevenson and they both will be looking to make a mark in what is going to be an important tour for the USA Cricket team.
Saurabh Netravalkar, Akshay Homraj, SR Taylor, Karima Gore, C Stevenson, Monank Patel, Aaron Jones, Ian Holland, Nosthush Kenjige, Xavier Marshall, Rusty Theron.
It's an important series for both the sides and they both would love to start on a winning note. While UAE have not played the fifty-over format for a long time, USA have performed well above their weight in the same format. UAE, however, will be confident of continuing their reasonably good T20 form in the upcoming series as well. On paper, their not much to separate the two sides and holding on to the nerves would be important. UAE are playing at their home ground and have experienced players available at their disposal. Therefore, betting on UAE, who have the odds of 1.912, is a better proposition in the upcoming match.
