About the Match
After losing their match against South Africa by a whopping 62 runs, Zimbabwe will now go up against UAE in the upcoming group B match on 19th Feb at the Saxton Stadium, Nelson. While Zimbabwe will be eager to bounce back from the loss, UAE is looking to grab this opportunity to perform well on the international arena. Team Zimbabwe has a good batting line-up to play under pressure which could help them win matches while UAE has talented players but lacks experience; the match will surely be very interesting as each team will try to dominate the other on Thursday.
UAE are five-time winners of the ACC T20 Cup and have also participated in the Asia Cup Twice, which gives them a bit of experience of playing under pressure but it needs to be seen if they are geared up for serious challenges. The team has some experienced players like Mohammad Tauqir, who has played in 50 international matches including 5 ODI’s and brings his all-rounder skills to the table with his accurate right-arm off spin. Khurram Khan is a key player featuring in 10 ODI’s so far with an average over 50 with the bat and he has also taken 12 wickets. Swapnil Patil is also one of the strong players and others like Andri Berenger and Krishna Karate add to the UAE’s strength; but the team has lack of experience which is their most obvious weakness. The team has talent and confidence to overcome the challenges and will be hungry to win the matches with a strong performance on the field.
Zimbabwe lost its last match against SA by 62 runs although they gave a tough fight in the middle; the batsmen had to chase down the target of 340 runs but they could only manage 277 as their final five wickets fell for just 41 runs. Hamilton Masakadza blasted 80 off 74, Chibhabha scored 64 runs off 82 balls and Brendan Taylor scored a run-a-ball 40 but that wasn’t emough to help the team reach the goal. On the bowling front, Panyangara, Chatara, Chigumbura and Kamungozi took 1 wicket each, but other bowlers failed to take regular wickets or keep the run-flow in check. The defeat would surely have hurt their morale but the team has the necessary talent and experience to bounce back; with players like Elton Chigumbura, an all-rounder with over 150 ODI’s, the team definitely has the resources to give a tough fight. Brendan Taylor, who has nearly 5000 runs under his belt, leads the team with confidence and with some good hands at the top order like Masakadza and Chibhabha they definitely have the capability to win the upcoming match.
Zimbabwe has remarkable skills in both batting and bowling compared to UAE, who might find it a bit daunting to bring about a confident performance under pressure here. However, the UAE team members are willing to put in their best and if they can focus on the end goal, they can surely find their way. However, after its recent defeat, Zimbabwe will come out all guns blazing to take on UAE with all the fire-power and are more likely to win the match on Thursday.
