UPWW vs RCBW Match Prediction - Mar 15, 2023

The UP Warriorz Women will be fighting to keep themselves in the top-3 as they take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in match number 13 of the Women’s Premier League.

In their previous head-to-head encounter, the UP Warriorz handed a thumping 10-wicket defeat to the Royal Challengers thanks to a superb performance by the opening pair of Alyssa Healy and Devika Vaidya. The Warriorz will be hoping to emulate the performance in this match too.

UPWW vs RCBW Team Previews

UP Warriorz Women

It has been a mixed bag for the Warriorz so far as at the end of the first round in this double round-robin format, they have managed to win 2 matches, while also losing 2. They are leading the Gujarat Giants by just 2 points and have no leeway to falter here.

Alyssa Healy and Tahlia McGrath are the two top-ranked batters in the white-ball format according to the latest ICC rankings and they have shown their class here by becoming the two top-scoring batters for the Warriorz. Both have scored 2 half-centuries each so far, and the team will be banking on them to play another big inning here. However, the other batters have failed to have a big impact on the proceedings as the likes of Devika Vaidya, Kiran Navgire, and Simran Shaikh have played more of a supporting role.

Sophie Ecclestone, who is arguably the best spinner in the world when it comes to the T20 format, has picked up 8 wickets so far and will once again play an important role in this match. She has been aided by Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, both of whom have bowled well in patches.

The pace attack has been a bit of a disappointment though, as Shabnim Ismail and Anjali Sarvani have failed to contain the opposition batters.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women

The lesser that is said about the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s performance this season, the better it is. The team started as one of the strongest contenders to lift the title but is now on the verge of getting knocked out of the group stages. RCB has lost each of its 5 matches and is firmly at the bottom of the points table.

Barring the performances of Ellyse Perry and Sophie Devine, there is nothing much to mention regarding Bangalore’s journey thus far. Perry has once again proved why she is considered to be one of the most dominant batters of the current generation as she has scored a total of 195 runs in 5 matches, including 2 half-centuries. Sophie Devine has played reasonably well at the top of the order but is yet to play a match-winning inning.

The biggest disappointment however for the RCB is the form of their captain, Smriti Mandhana. She was the costliest player bought by any team during the auctions and the expectations from her were sky-high. However, she hasn’t been able to live up to them and has been quite lackluster so far. Her captainship too has been pretty uninspiring, leading to a poor run for her team.

The fact that a part-time spinner, Heather Knight, is the leading wicket-taker for RCB speaks volumes about the failure of its mainstream bowlers. Megan Schutt, Renuka Singh, Preeti Bose, and Shreyanka Patil have all struggled to find the right line and length.

UPWW vs RCBW Toss Prediction

4 of the last 5 matches played on this ground have been won by teams batting second. We, therefore, think that the winner of the toss will likely opt to field first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface at the DY Patil Sports Academy is flat and is good to bat on. The average first-inning score here in the last 5 matches has been around 150 but that hasn’t nearly been enough trouble for the teams batting second. While the pitch was helpful to the quicker bowlers initially, it has slowed down a bit in the past week and we should see some turn for the slower bowlers.

The weather is expected to be overcast with temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius.

UPWW vs RCBW Betting Tips

While the UP Warriorz has had its ups and downs this season, things have only gone downhill for their opponents and we think that they will continue struggling here. The Warriorz have some players who are in good form and are likely to perform well here.

Ellyse Perry has by far been the most consistent performer with the bat for the Royal Challengers this season. She has scored 2 half-centuries in 5 innings and has been the top-scorer in the last 2 matches, including the one against the Warriorz. We are therefore backing her to do the same here.

Sophie Ecclestone is the number 1 bowler in Women’s T20 cricket according to the latest ICC rankings. She has picked up 8 wickets so far, including 4 against RCB in their reverse fixture. With the surface getting more and more helpful to the slower bowlers, we think she will once again emerge as the top bowler for the Warriorz.

While RCB hasn’t had much success in terms of match results, they have done well during the Powerplays thanks to some hard-hitting by the likes of Sophie Devine and Ellyse Perry. Bangalore has a high scoring rate during the first 6 overs and we are backing them to score at least 52 runs here.
