As far as matches in the Marsh ODI Cup 2021 go, this next one between Victoria and South Australia has probably the least riding on it. This is the final group match for both teams and they sit firmly at the bottom of the league table. A win for either team is not going to affect the standings in any way.
Of course, since both teams are as yet winless in the tournament, a win will allow them to avoid finishing dead last. That may be seen as motivation by some although we don’t think a single win is going to improve the season dramatically for either team.
Victoria vs South Australia Marsh ODI Cup 2021 is going to be played at the Junction Oval, Melbourne on the 8th of April 2021.
There is a reason that Victoria has not been able to win a single match in this edition of the Marsh Cup and that is largely down to its batting. None of the batsmen have been able to score consistently and a collapse always seems to be around the corner.
Perhaps, more troublingly for Victoria, the leading batsmen are Sam Harper, Marcus Harris, Nic Maddinson, and Peter Handscomb. None of these batsmen are currently pushing for a place in the Australian setup and seem to be past their best in most cases.
The next generation of players needs to be given more chances as this current one is just not getting the job done.
The bowling has also been largely unimpressive although there seems to be more talent to work with over there. Will Sutherland has been in good form and we all know what James Pattinson is capable of.
With Scott Boland and Jon Holland in the attack as well, Victoria has a decent attack that can be dangerous with enough runs to defend.
Nic Maddinson, Sam Harper, Marcus Harris, Peter Handscomb, Jonathan Merlo, Matthew Short, Will Sutherland, T Murphy, Samuel Elliott, Brody Couch, James Seymour.
Things have not gone to plan for South Australia in the Marsh ODI Cup and they would love to finish off with at least one win to their name. Contrary to Victoria, South Australia has some better batting resources available to it.
Players like Jake Weatherald, Alex Carey, Travis Head, and Callum Ferguson should have been able to score more runs than they have been in the ODI Cup. This is the core of a batting lineup that has played together for quite a while now and enjoyed success in white-ball cricket for a fair bit of time as well.
We think they may be able to get the job done against Victoria.
On the other hand, the bowling lineup for South Australia is the weakest in the entire competition. Daniel Worrall, Wes Agar, Spencer Johnson, Travis Head, Corey Kelly, and Samuel Kerber were the bowlers that were used in the previous match.
This is not a good attack by any stretch of the imagination. At best, this attack can help keep the runs down if there are some wickets taken up front but that is not always the case either.
South Australia has to somehow try to find a way of being more effective with the ball otherwise the opposition will just keep outscoring it in all conditions.
Jake Weatherald, Harry Nielsen, TM Head, Alex Carey, Jake Lehmann, Sam Kerber, Corey Kelly, Daniel Worrall, Wes Agar, Lloyd Pope, Ryan Gibson.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. There have been two matches played at the Junction Oval in this season of the Marsh ODI Cup and both have been won by the team that has chased.

The pitch is a bit on the slower side and the batsmen have found it difficult to play freely. This is probably why it is difficult to find out what a good score batting first is. The spinners always have a say in matches played at the Junction Oval and we don’t think it is going to be any different in this match either.
A total of around 260-275 batting first is going to be pretty difficult to chase down.
We are going to back Victoria to get its first win of the season and finish a rung higher than South Australia. It has a better bowling attack and that could give it the edge since the batting lineup of both teams is pretty out of form.
Bet on Victoria to win.
