It is great to get a peek into the domestic structure of Australian cricket. That is the structure that has given rise to some of the most dominant teams in the history of cricket. Now, these matches are available to be viewed around the world and are developing their own hardcore fandom.
The Australian domestic ODI Cup, now known as the Marsh Cup 2021, is the premier 50 over competition of Australia. This next match is going to be played between Victoria and Tasmania, both of whom ended up losing their opening match of the tournament.
With some top international names on show, it will be interesting to see which team comes out on top.
Victoria vs Tasmania Marsh Cup 2021 is going to be played at the Junction Oval, Melbourne on the 10th of March 2021.
Victoria lost its opening match against New South Wales as its bowlers were unable to stop Steve Smith from peppering the ball all over the ground. In response to chasing 318, Victoria did not put up a good show and folded for 259.
Early wickets, a slow start, and an inability of the batsmen to convert their starts into bigger scores would be concerning for Victoria.
There are some very good players in Victoria’s lineup, though. James Pattinson and Will Sutherland lead the fast-bowling while Jon Holland is the in-form spinner. Zak Evans and Xavier Crone did not have a very good game the last time around, however, they are pretty decent bowlers as well.
Among the batsmen, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Harris, Nic Maddinson, and Matthew Short are the ones to watch out for.
In both areas, Victoria seems to have players that are not the most consistent and whose performances can vary wildly from match to match. Peter Handscomb and Nic Maddinson are perhaps the two best batsmen for Victoria right now.
Nic Maddinson, Sam Harper, Peter Handscomb, Matthew Short, Jake Fraser McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, Xavier Crone, Wil Parker, Zak Evans, T Murphy, Brody Couch.
Tim Paine, the Australia test captain, is leading Tasmania in this series and will be hoping for some runs to strengthen his case after a disastrous series loss to India. He made 28 at a strike rate of 56 in the first match, something that is just not good enough in today’s era.
Caleb Jewell and Jordan Silk are the other batsmen that we think could make an impact in this match. Jordan Silk, in particular, has been batting very well and made 77 in the previous match. He was the only player that made an impact with the bat, though, and Tasmania will want to improve rapidly in this area.
While the batting for Tasmania looks a bit thin, its bowling is in good hands. Nathan Ellis picked up three wickets in the previous match while Jackson Bird, Beau Webster, and Sam Rainbird are all proven performers as well.
In terms of the bowling attack, Tasmania seems to have a slight advantage.
Tim Paine, Caleb Jewell, Jake Doran, Mac Wright, Jordan Silk, Beau Webster, TD Andrews, Nathan Ellis, Jackson Bird, Sam Rainbird, Peter Siddle.
The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first. This is the first match at this venue and so the pitch should be fresh and good for batting. Setting a score and defending is generally the way to go in 50 over cricket.

The weather conditions in Melbourne are pretty good for cricket. There is no rain expected and the temperatures should be comfortable as well. The pitch at the Junction Oval is generally a bit on the slower side. There is always some help for the spinners and the batsmen have to work hard for their runs.
A score of around 240-260 should be seen as par batting first.
We are going to with Tasmania in this match because of its better bowling. Victoria does seem to have a slightly stronger batting lineup but the conditions could favor the stronger bowling team in this match.
Bet on Tasmania to win.
