VAC vs WAC Match Prediction - Oct 22, 2022

Although this will be only the third game for each squad in the Marsh One-Day Cup, as of now Western Australia and Tasmania are the only unbeaten teams.

The last time these two squads met, it was a very high-scoring game in which WA eventually won by five wickets for a total of 277. There was a lot of fantastic batting on display, but it was hard to ignore Josh Philippe’s 100 from 96 deliveries that really set the stage for the win.

VAC vs WAC Team Previews

Victoria

Victoria has historically been one of the best cricketing states in Australia, but the team will really meet its match against WA.

The good news for Victoria is that their batting lineup is really shining, with superb recent performances from Pucovski, Harris, and Handscomb in the Sheffield Shield against none other than WA. Although it’s hard to know if this type of play will translate to the ODI version, it’s still great to see Marcus Harris, especially, reach a century.

The bowling has improved, too, as we’re really impressed by off-spinner Todd Murphy, who picked up 3/104 in 35 overs in the Sheffield Shield matchup against WA.

The last time these teams met in the Marsh ODI, Murphy was thumped for 55 runs and took one wicket, so there are ups and downs. Still, it’s good to see he’s capable of strong performances when it’s crunch time.

If there’s anyone to win the game for Victoria, it will likely be Peter Handscomb, who is just an awesome batter in all cricket forms. Handscomb made 93 runs in the loss to WA last time, so you just know he’s keen as a bean to reach a century and stop Western Australia picking up two wins in a row.

Western Australia

Good luck to any team slowing down the WA juggernaut in this Marsh One-Day Cup.

Western Australia absolutely demolished NSW in the most recent matchup, only conceding 76 runs from a masterful bowling attack. Jhye Richardson was undeniably the star bowler of the day, picking up 4/24 in eight overs (ER: 3.00).

It’s never likely that Richardson will achieve these sorts of figures in every ODI match, though, but he’s rapidly becoming one of the state’s best bowlers and is often overlooked for the national side.

If the Victorians are to win, which is difficult as WA is for sure the favourite, they’ll have to send Josh Philippe back to the pavilion ASAP. He’s just too deadly when given enough time to get comfortable, and this young wicketkeeper/batter is certainly on the radar of Aussie selectors for the national squad.

Philippe and Short is a lethal opening pair, and while the middle and lower-order batsmen are still good enough, a lot of WA’s runs will hinge on these two. If Victoria can dismiss both in the first 10 overs at least, then they’ve got a chance at an underdog victory.

VAC vs WAC Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely want to bat first in case rain disrupts the game later.

Pitch and Conditions

Annoyingly, there have been thunderstorms forecasted for match day, so it’s possible the game will be delayed or even cancelled. Hopefully the rain doesn’t reach the oval and we get the game we want to witness. The Junction Oval pitch is typically balanced and results are often very close.

VAC vs WAC Betting Tips

WA is rolling right now after the destruction of NSW for only 76 runs. But they’re not unbeatable by any means, and if Victoria has solid bowling from Murphy and has the runs flowing from Handscomb and Harris, then a win is possible for the southern team.

It will be quite the match and one of the best in the Marsh One-Day Cup so far, but we think that Victoria can pull off an unlikely win with strong team play and the hope that WA just doesn’t have the performance we’re used to seeing.

Bet on Victoria to win.
