We are down to the final day and last two matches in the Global T20 Canada and while the final four teams are decided, the battle for the top-two positions is still on. Brampton Wolves continued to build on their terrific form as they defeated Toronto Nationals in a high-scoring contest. They are the only team that has secured its position at the ladder. They're set to take on Vancouver Knights in what will be the final match of the league stage for both the sides. The match is scheduled to be played on Sunday, 4th August at CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario. While Brampton Wolves do not have much to gain from this match, Vancouver Knights have a chance to finish in the top two teams which is what they'll be aiming for in this all-important match.
The Wolves have undoubtedly been the best team in the tournament so far, and their position at the top of the ladder is strong evidence of that. While this upcoming contest isn't likely to be easy for them, they have been in a kind of form that the things have fallen automatically in place for them.
In their last match, against Toronto Nationals, they got off to a flying start like they have been doing in the tournament with George Munsey and Lendl Simmons taking the bowlers apart from the word go. The dismissal of Simmons in the fourth over didn't hamper their assault as the likes of Munro, and NR Kumar continued to play second-fiddle to Munsey. It was the innings of Babar Hayat, however, which turned things around for them as he scored 48 runs off just 18 deliveries, which eventually became the difference between them and the Nationals.
Even though any score of 200 is difficult to chase down in a twenty over game, Brampton Nationals needed to bowl well. Barring Pervez, who conceded 25 runs in his three overs and picked up a wicket, none of their bowlers were economical as they conceded 211. While their batting has done a sensational job in the tournament so far, their bowling has looked a little too underpowered at times. They have experience in their bowling attack, and if they can use that to inflict some damage on the field, the Wolves will become the team to beat in the competition.
Tobias Visee, Chris Gayle, CAK Walton, Shoaib Malik, Andre Russell, Hayden Walsh, Daniel Sams, MJ Rippon, Saad Bin Zafar, Ali Khan, Rayyan Pathan.
Despite a couple of matches not going their way, one due to poor performance and the other one due to inclement weather conditions, the Knights still find themselves in a pretty good position to finish among the top two sides.
In their last match, they found back the form they were in dire need of as they defeated the Edmonton Royals by six wickets. The win moved them to the second position, and another win here should be enough for them to seal a spot among the top two sides.
On paper, they have a superb batting unit with the likes of Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Andre Russell, and Chadwick Walton available at their disposal. Chris Gayle played a solid knock of 94-runs in their previous match and will be looking to carry on with the form he is in. Overall, the Knights have an excellent amalgamation of talent in the batting as well as bowling department, and the availability of a couple of fine all-rounders only add to their balance. Considering the way they've done in their last couple of matches, it's certainly not going to be easy to get past them.
LMP Simmons, George Munsey, Colin Munro, ADS Fletcher , Nitish Kumar, B Hayat, Abraash Khan, Wahab Riaz, Cecil Pervez, Junaid Siddiqui, IS Sodhi.
It's the battle of top two teams in the points table which has plenty on offer for the Knights, at least. A win here for them will ascertain their position at the second spot, largely because of their superb net run-rate. They have a motivation to do well in the upcoming match and with the form Gayle and Co. are in, they are firm favorites to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
