The first match of the Global T20 Canada resulted in a rather anti-climatic finish as the Vancouver Knights sealed the game with a lot many overs to spare. They appear to be up and ready for their upcoming fixture as well which is to be played at the same venue of CAA Centre, Brampton Ontario, on Sunday, 28th July. They'll be up against Winnipeg Hawks who are coming off a significant drubbing in a rain-curtailed fixture where Sunil Narine smashed their bowlers all around the park. Both the sides will be desperate to register a win in this upcoming fixture, albeit for different reasons and, therefore, a cracker of a contest is undoubtedly on the cards.
The Knights are coming off a major win in their first match and will be brimming with confidence going into the next fixture. They have one of the best batting lineups of the competition, probably the best, and will not be easy to deal with as was the case for the Tigers in the opening encounter.
The opening pair of Tobias Visee and Chris Gayle who both have looked in fantastic form in the recent matches that they have played is as explosive as any in the tournament. They have a pretty solid middle order to follow with the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, JJ Smuts, Andre Russell to follow.
While their bowling appears to be a little light on paper, they have a batting unit which more or less covers for it. Also, they have three good all-rounders available who can chip in for four good overs each whenever required providing Chris Gayle, their skipper, with plenty of options as far as bowling department is concerned.
Chris Gayle, Tobias Visee, CAK Walton, RVD Dussen, JJ Smit, Shoaib Malik, Andile Phehlukwayo, RA Cheema, MJ Rippon, Saad Bin Zafar, Ali Khan.
While the Hawks can consider themselves a bit unlucky as they happened to be a part of a rain-curtailed fixture, they have only themselves to blame for the result. Their bowlers were indisciplined and appeared to bowl without a plan while bowling to Sunil Narine, which resulted in a challenging total for them to chase down.
On paper, they have a decent batting unit which should have chased down that total on most days, but almost none of their batsmen haven't been in the form they once used to be. JP Duminy and Umar Akmal failed to impress in the previous match but will shoulder a massive responsibility in this upcoming fixture.
Just like the Knights, they have a few concerns regarding their bowling which they'd like to sort out as quickly as possible. Sunil Narine smashed their bowlers all around the park and the wounds of which will be fresh in the minds of their bowlers. If they can take a cue from their previous encounter and bowl within the right channels, especially in the early overs when there is some assistance available for the quick bowlers, they are capable of putting any team under pressure, let alone Vancouver Knights.
Chris Lynn, Jean-Paul Duminy, Umar Akmal, RR Emrit, Dwayne Bravo, Paul Van Meekeren, S Anwar, Sunny Sohal, H Tariq, Kaleem Sana, Umair Ghani.
Vancouver Knights are coming off a massive win in their last match and will be oozing with confidence. On the contrary, the Hawks did little right in their encounter against Tigers and have so many areas to improve in. The Knights have a batting lineup that most team in the tournament would be the envy of and bowling against them is not going to be easy, especially for the set of bowlers who were smashed in their last match. Comparing the two teams on the basis of their past performances, and on paper, the Knights appear to be ahead and are, therefore, out pick to win the upcoming match of the tournament.
