WAC vs SAC Match Prediction - Mar 08, 2023

The Marsh Cup Final is at last upon us, with Western Australia taking on South Australia for the coveted state trophy. WA has been unstoppable this season in the ODI Marsh Cup and has a perfect 7-0 record, while SA has played solid enough with four wins and three losses (two of those to WA).

Cameron Green and Lance Morris will be out for WA due to international Test duties for Australia, and it’s also a shame to hear that fast bowler Jhye Richardson will be out for a long time due to re-injuring his left hamstring recently.

Look out for all the latest odds and scores in every cricket match.

WAC vs SAC Team Previews

Western Australia

Even without Richardson, Morris, and Green, this WA squad is one of the greatest we’ve seen in years. Mitch Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Ashton Agar will all be in the side, not to mention one of the best bowlers in the BBL, Andrew Tye.

Such is the depth of the WA roster, that fantastic players like Hilton Cartwright, David Moody, and Charlie Stobo will all have to miss out on the game to make way for the new additions.

The biggest batting threats are bound to be Josh Philippe (436 total runs and a huge 72.66 average), D'Arcy Short (299), and Cameron Bancroft (237). However, WA knows full well that even if these three batters aren’t having a good game, there’s also Mitch Marsh, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner (captain), and Marcus Stoinis to fall back on.

It’s almost unfair just how many star batsmen are on this WA side! Marsh is the biggest question mark because he’s coming back from injury, but he’s still good enough to make the side and create an impact. Strangely, Josh Philippe is the only WA player to make a century this season, when he hit exactly 100 against Victoria.

The SA batters will be most worried about the bowling overs from Tye (11 wickets) and Behrendorff (12 wickets), as these two have some of the best economy rates in the Marsh Cup and are absolutely lethal in any match. Agar and Paris are respectable backups and can provide a lot of solid overs as well.

Western Australia Playing 11

Ashton Agar, Aaron Hardie, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Cameron Bancroft, Josh Inglis, Jason Behrendorff, Josh Philippe, Matthew Kelly, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis.

South Australia Redbacks

South Australia won’t have the services of Test stars Alex Carey and Travis Head, but there’s still a lot of excitement about the inclusion of Spencer Johnson, Wes Agar, and breakout player, Ben Manenti. There’s no doubt that SA is the underdog here and they certainly know it.

The team has played well to get to this Final and there’s a small chance to win, but it’s slim at best. South Australia will have to hope that both Hunt (242 total runs) and McSweeney (283) have a fantastic batting partnership, as they are by far the two batsmen that WA will be worried about.

Drew and Lehmann have the potential to play well, but after that, the batting gets a bit thin. Hunt is the only SA batter to pick up a century this season, with 103 runs against none other than WA.

A fearsome bowling attack doesn’t exactly describe SA, but the WA batters will still have to be wary of Manenti (9 wickets), Thornton (12 wickets), and Agar (8 wickets). Thornton hasn’t been the most economical bowler this season, with an iffy 6.07 ER and one maiden.

South Australia Redbacks Playing 11

Benjamin Manenti, Henry Hunt, Spencer Johnson, Daniel Drew, Harry Nielsen, Henry Thornton, Jake Lehmann, Kelvin Smith, Nathan McAndrew, Nathan McSweeney, Wes Agar.

WAC vs SAC Toss Prediction

Any team winning the toss should look to bowl first and make the most of this bouncy, fast pitch.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The WACA is certainly the bounciest, fastest pitch in Australia, which makes it fantastic for pace bowlers like Tye and Behrendorff. It can be tricky to bat on, but the WA batsmen should certainly be used to this pitch and will know its secrets.

The temperature on the day looks hot and should stay around 32°C, although a chance of some rain is forecasted later in the afternoon, which hopefully is avoided.

WAC vs SAC Betting Tips

Although the Mostbet odds clearly suggest that betting on SA can get you a decent money return, it just doesn’t make sense to bet on this team right now. SA is decent, but will struggle against such a powerhouse team like WA. The odds aren’t great for WA, but it’s a surer bet.

Western Australia has won the last five matchups against South Australia, and SA hasn’t beaten WA in a one-day game since October 2017! With such amazing batting and bowling talent, plus a consistent lineup that is dependable in every game, we have to pick WA to get the victory and win the Marsh Cup Final.

Bet on Western Australia to win.
