WAC vs SAC Match Prediction - Nov 11, 2022

Western Australia will battle South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, and although WA is playing great with two wins and one draw, it’s never a good idea to underestimate SA. South Australia has one loss and two draws, so remain the underdog team as of now, but who has the better squad?

It’s been some time since SA defeated WA, as the last time was 2020, but since then WA has won two matchups and there have been two draws between the two states.

WAC vs SAC Team Previews

Western Australia

A lot of WA’s success has been due largely to batsmen Hilton Cartwright and Sam Whiteman. Cartwright is averaging 39.71 and has made 675 runs over his last 10 matches, while captain Whiteman is averaging 47.29 and has totalled 662 runs in his last nine games.

While it’s true that Whiteman had a tough match against Queensland, by not scoring a single run in either innings, it’s fair to say that no batsman seemed to excel and he wasn’t the only one to struggle on the pitch.

Cartwright has been really impressive lately with the bat, scoring 10 and 69 against Queensland, and 70 and 76* against Victoria. It’s possible he’ll move up in the order, but most likely WA will keep him at fifth for some stability in case the top order collapses.

Lance Morris and Jhye Richardson will lead the WA bowling attack, with Richardson in fine form after his recent matches with Australia. He’s picked up 29 wickets and an ER of 2.38 in his last six games, which is incredible. Morris is equally solid with 32 wickets and an ER of 3.60 in his last 10 appearances.

South Australia Redbacks

For SA to have any chance, it will be up to batters Henry Hunt and Jake Weatherald to have two great innings. Hunt’s 735 runs in his last 10 matches is a good indication of his batting form, although his best recent score was 97* against Victoria back in October.

Weatherald hit a few 50s in early October, but hasn’t been wildly amazing lately. WA will have to watch out for Alex Carey and Travis Head, however, as they are SA’s dark horse batters and can easily make life tough for opposing bowlers.

Both have had national side experience and this has certainly shown in their form for SA. Nathan McAndrew and Wes Agar remain the two bowlers that will trouble the WA batters. Agar, especially, was fantastic against NSW by taking 2/69 and 3/43 in two innings. McAndrew hasn’t shown us the form we know he’s capable of in the last two SS games, but his talent is clearly visible and caution is necessary.

WAC vs SAC Toss Prediction

Any team winning the toss will look to bowl first and harness the power of the pitch movement. The hot weather in Perth usually creates a few cracks in the pitch as well.

Pitch and Conditions

The WACA seems to favour bowlers with a bouncy pitch that pacers and spinners love. Always a lot of movement for bowlers here.

WAC vs SAC Betting Tips

SA certainly have good odds to win, but despite a few glimmers of hope in the batting and bowling lineup, it’s still WA that has the better overall squad. Plus, playing at the WACA gives WA such a big advantage.

The batting prowess of Whiteman and Cartwright is undeniable and we’re sure that both will have a great game against a weaker bowling attack from SA. Centuries are possible and don’t be surprised if WA declares in order to finish the match earlier.

Bet on Western Australia to win.
