The final group match of Sheffield Shield 2021for Western Australia (WA) and Tasmania has a lot riding on it. A place in the final is up for grabs and although only WA has a realistic chance of getting in the top-2, Tasmania would want to build on its fantastic victory in the previous match as well.
Both WA and Tasmania come into this match with a win in their previous match. It will be interesting to see how they approach this match in which both of the teams need a result going their way.
We expect some aggressive cricket with possible sporting declarations.
Western Australia vs Tasmania Sheffield Shield 2021 is going to be played at the WACA Ground, Perth starting on the 3rd of April 2021.
A superb performance from Western Australia saw it get the better of Victoria in its previous match. Cameron Bancroft, Josh Inglis, and Joel Paris scored centuries to help the side recover from a collapse and the bowlers stepped up after that.
Matthew Kelly picked up four wickets in the first inning and Joel Paris got five in the second to eventually pave the way to victory.
That match showed the kind of depth that WA has in its team. Sam Whiteman also scored a century in the second inning to prove that WA can win without a major contribution from Shaun Marsh, Cameron Green, and Hilton Cartwright.
Of course, having so much batting talent in the team gives it a big advantage and it definitely goes into this match against Tasmania with more batting strength. Playing on the WACA pitch will serve its bowlers well. They know what lengths to ideally bowl and are in good form.
Joel Paris, Matthew Kelly, and Cameron Gannon will trouble the Tasmania batsmen but the lack of wickets for Cameron Green is something that would be troubling WA.
CT Bancroft, SM Whiteman, Shaun Marsh, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis, Ashton Agar, Joel Paris, Matthew Kelly, Cameron Gannon, Lance Morris.
Jackson Bird bowled the spell of a lifetime as he ran through a strong New South Wales batting lineup and picked up 7 wickets in the process. He is going to have to provide something similar in this match as well in conditions that are helpful to fast-bowling if Tasmania has to pull off something miraculous.
The previous match against New South Wales was the only match that Tasmania has own in Sheffield Shield 2021.
While the bowling lineup is quite decent thanks to Jackson Bird, Peter Siddle, and Beau Webster being a part of the lineup, the batting is quite brittle.
Matthew Wade, Tim Paine, and Jordan Silk are the batsmen to watch out for in the Tasmania team. We don’t really rate either Wade or Paine very highly as they tend to throw away their wickets far too often. Jordan Silk, though, is a class player and unlucky to not be in the scheme of things for the Australia international team.
A lot of things went right for Tasmania in their previous match and while we would advise against ruling them out completely, to see them winning against WA at the WACA seems a bit far-fetched to us at the moment.
Matthew Wade, Jordan Silk, Tim Ward, Caleb Jewell, Jake Doran, Tim Paine, Beau Webster, Jarrod Freeman, Lawrence Neil-Smith, Jackson Bird, Sam Rainbird.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. The cracks tend to open up at the WACA after Day three or so and so batting first can be a significant advantage.

The weather forecast for Perth is quite good and we don’t think we should have any trouble getting the scheduled overs in every single day. The pitch is going to be fast, bouncy, and helpful to the fast-bowlers.
While the WACA is far from the terror it used to be in its heyday, it still offers help to the fast-b bowlers that are willing to bend their backs. The batsmen should be able to score plenty of runs after getting their eye in as well.
We are going to stick with the home team in this contest. We think WA has a better batting lineup, a bowling attack that is very well-suited to home conditions, and most of its senior players are in good form too.
Bet on Western Australia to win.
